Can't select server with friends

My friends were nagging me to come back and try the game again after all the updates, I get prompted that the worlds have been merged etc since I last played and needing to pick a new world. Okay sure, but... I can't pick the worlds my friends have characters on.

So now what? Unless I've missed something, we just don't play with your friends?

You could of played with your friends if you pre-planned what servers to be on pre-expansion, but after the expansion dropped they locked most of them. Best thing you can do rn is just play alongside them streaming in disc or something and transfer over once they're unlocked.

How would we have pre-planned if they only just told me about the expansion? Did you miss the part where I said we haven't played since before the world merges?

Unless you follow this game, updates aren't advertised anywhere so no one outside of this game's space is aware of them and definitely won't know they need to pre-plan what server they're all going to play on because every other modern, mildly popular MMO in existence right now doesn't have this issue. It's NW having archaic server tech.

Yeah, I've played before, at launch for a few months. I was hoping based on the years since that it might have improved. I see that they've just doubled down on the micro-transactions and few other QOL or technical improvements in that time.

Was reading some stuff about the updates since I last played whilst waiting for replies here in-case I missed something. The updates just do not seem good. E.g. Paid transmogging? I mean really? If WoW can offer it for free with 1000s more items and literally millions more players then NW definitely can. Battle Passes rather than real content... etc. etc.

I had the same issue. But lucky me I checked before buying the DLC if I would be able to join the server a friend is playing on. And when I noticed that that is not possible , because only 2 out of 10 servers are free for character transfer, I decided to delete the game again (tried already in 2022 when they wanted to scam me for 12€ for a server transfer) and not buying the DLC.
