Ill play devils advocate, my wife plays some dumbass mobile game every day and probably has 5000 hours in it. Never spent a dime, never mind $1/hr.
I agree with you though ill be catching this xpac. It beats a sub fee. The reason I don't play wow is the sub fee, and its not an affordability problem - its a personality problem I have. If I pay a sub fee for something, I feel compelled to use it as much as possible to get max value out of it. I can't help it. So I just avoid sub fees or I end up ignoring all my other games.
The point is that a $30 expansion isnt something you throw a fit over. Not to mention youre comparing a mobile game to a AAA pc game and throwing in uncommon situations. I persoanlly cant think of a free game right now that I would play for 5k hours, so I guess this doesnt apply to me? enjoyment has nothing to do with this.
I put over 2k hours while spending a total of 60 dollars on new world, that comes out at around 3 cents/hour.. are you really gonna start arguing over 3 cents? probably not. people complain because thats their default any time something related to new world comes out.
There are no current games I have any interest in buying.
Only games I might buy are 2-5 years away.
$30 is barely 3 hours work at minimum wage
Buy to Play and Season Pass is okay
Then they took away the original Transmog and replaced it with something based on RNG with the option of Transmog tokens that cost quite a bit.
Now they take away an area that has existed since release, including all upgrades and progress to replace it and put it including mounts behind a 30€ paywall instead of creating a new area and linking it to the world.
If I had not already turned my back on the game, this would definitely be the end.
How you can defend something like this is beyond me, no normal player in his right mind can approve this.
Apart from that I doubt that the story and content that is delivered is worth the 30€ at all.
GW2 last addon brings for 25€ equal times to a multiple more content and game still modern.
Trying to poverty shame people is a p**s poor foundation for an argument.
I'm sure there are many players, who are unhappy about this, in a far more financially secure position than whatever it is you think you've got going on.
Not everyone monetises every aspect of their spare time. Personally, it seems like a pretty sad way to experience your life. Myself, I determine the value of my spare time based on it's quality. This is time for recreation, be that independent hobbies or spending time with the people I love. There is no monetary value that can be ascribed to that.
So if I'm engaging in an activity, and it is poor quality, then it is poor value. So I can choose to spend my time doing other things that make me happy. And I will. But I won't pretend that I think this game is good value, regardless of whether it cost $30 or $300, because it isn't good quality and it hasn't been since launch.
