From my experience in both the best MMOs to hit the market and singleplayer games. MMOs just give too limited experience for an exclusive singleplayer experience. They have to be easily enough for a bad gamer to be able to clear a story which in my case is not fun. If an MMO don't have decent cosmetics or mechanics, you can't mod it to make it better. At the end of the day from my point of view MMOs are only good for one thing. Playing and interacting with massive amounts of players. The better the PvP scene the MMO has, the more turned on I get over it.
On the other note, New World is very demanding on hardware. So your 980 might only allow for you to play New World on medium comfortably.
That's just my two cents, you can take it or leave it. The choice is yours.
Fun at first, annoying later. In clans there is a division of labor, or there could be, there should be, and everything becomes easier. But in organized clans, infrequent presence for an hour a day is not the desired goal, most of the time anyway. And since New World no longer has the number of players from the beginning, clans can be picky when they accept ...
wont be easy but not impossible at all good luck.
The map has good amount of ruins and caves to explore, chests behind every nook and cranny. The combat is dynamic and unlike aoe grinding of other MMOs, here fighting 2 mobs at once can actually be dangerous. Its not Dark Souls level of difficulty but you still might want to pick your fights instead of running in Leeroy style :)
Crafting is not needed until endgame min-maxing, so this grind can be safely skipped.
Actually, i've made it to gear score 600 by casually soloing in pve, skipping pvp and dungeons and never felt like i have to work full time here :)
NB! Like others have mentioned, the game is graphically demanding, i am not sure about 980 gpu at all....
This game can be done all by yourself but.. for activities such as Dungeons you'll have to join a group finder but it is easy to use and doesn't take too long to form a group and usually people are easy going but you may get the grumpy player from time to time. Dungeons aren't mandatory but it is where some of the best gear is dropped especially when proceeding with the mutations that come after but that is more of the end game criteria and nothing to even think about for now. I haven't really done much with mutations at 300 hours.
From Level 1 to 60 as a casual player there is plenty to do! Its a perfect time to play the game as a new solo player. They're adding more content as time goes on and an expansion is on the way very soon. Open world activities are available and If you are interested in PvP. I found it fun to just leave myself flagged as PvP exploring the open world as you never know if you will also come across another PvP who is part of an enemy faction and adds a unique thrill to the game. Plus you gain more XP when flagged as a PvP player whilst doing your solo experience.
Crafting is a big thing in this game, I haven't really done much at all towards it and so you don't have to if you don't want to but I think it will help you more if you do enjoy it. I say just take your time and enjoy the journey, I did and its been a really fun experience. Where I am now, it is a little slow (Level 60 and Gear score 615.. I think) and I haven't been on as much as I used to be, as I feel it gets to a point where you just have to do dungeons or Outpost rush and thats it. There are instances you can join such as Invasions (PvE invasions to your own factions fort where you defend against waves of ai enemies) or.. Wars! (PVP Instance) These are great but its hard to participate as the commander of the war usually chooses players they may know or higher skilled players. Plus finding a company (Guild) to join can be difficult but this is most likely my own experience and won't be yours.
I generally now just run around the open world flagged as a PvP player looking for others to hunt down or capture forts and kill a few Ai enemies in their encampments. The fun thing with this game is that make your own experience. Enjoy!
Keep in mind that some areas in the game are Elite Zones the only way to survive is in group or getting very good.
Only one time when I was level 30 I asked an stranger to help with one quest it was difficult and I was weak. He helped me and I help him with some stuff too.
So dont hesitate to ask for help, there are a lot of good guys out there.
100% can get $40 worth on just resourcing alone, I got like 150hrs my first time through at launch doing just that, and rerolled recently and enjoying it again. Just dont expect awesome raids and dungeons at endgame for you.
6 ayes
+1 aye and the ayes have it. The motion carries and the game is casual solo playable by the majority of posters.
I was casual player for a very long time and even if you can play it, at some point you will realise the big gap between you and millionaires.
This game is not gonna give you bis items easily as casual. You will deconstruct always almost everything.
Then you will have 2 options: play with what you get and be always killed in pvp by rich players that have always everything and go in premade with his friends, because yes, this game matches in pvp premades with casuals.
Or play solo, buy money online or farm like a no life zombie to buy bis items, do a lot of pve to level the gs of your gear up (because doing only pvp takes you like the triple longer) and then you will queue in pvp to be harrased by premades and rich players.
I say rich players because if you belong to a guild that has cities and etc, they are damn rich and they can swap from build and gear like nothing (because they are rich) while you will farm like a little noob thinking your making progress to later be destroyed in 4/6 games.
So my suggestion to you is that if you want to play casual and have a fair experience the STAY AWAY OF THIS GAME!!
If you are happy anyways being the mob but with higher Intelligence, for the players that are rich so they can have their fun, then go and play.
You can do a fair amount of stuff solo, mostly farming. But some of the quests are much easier in a group. Once you get to brimstone sands though, things get really tough. Some of the mobs hit really hard and if you pull more than a few you will most likely not survive. It gets pretty frustrating.
PVP is a joke. If you are not in one of the top companies, most of whom cheat in PVP in order to win wars and maintain their territories (they do this to ensure they win, because many of them sell the millions made from territory control RMT), then you will have a very frustrating time.
ESO is more casual friendly, WOW is more casual friendly, SWTOR is more casual friendly, I cant speak for GW2 or FFXIV but new world really relies on being in a company.
