How Dead Is It?

I am strongly debating buying the game a second time after refunding it shortly after launch when I realized the PVE progression was controlled by the PVP folks who run the villages. I still do not like that aspect of the game, but really enjoyed the game despite this.

Before I pull the trigger and buy the game, I wanted to know if the game is in the throws of death or are there plenty of people playing to make it worth buying during their sale?

There are three servers IN THE ENTIRE WORLD with a population over 1000 right now.

In MMORPG terms...this is a dead game.

It's up to you as its your money, but this much I can tell you. New World is NOT a forver game like WOW, ESO, FFXIV, GW2, Black Desert or even SWTOR.

That is disappointing. I no longer play WoW and was hoping I could find something to play to kill time this summer. I have played GW2... that was fun! I guess I will return there or check out Black Desert. ESO wasn't to my liking. FFXIV was meh. ..a tad too childish.

RIFT was another awesome game when it first came out, then they ruined it.

Weird answer but it's both. Game dying and you can still play on populated server. Server have 2500 slot, at day in EU you have two server with around 1500 players and NA have some over 1k servers. Next week start new season so many players will back to play. If you want mmo for few months then buy it, if for long term 1-2 years then don't buy it. Amazon work on their new mmo in LotR world, probably when it's out New World die completely.

A game forum full of Trolls is the best sign nowadays that a game is not "dead" but it could start really "dying" if they close the publictestservers and no further updates will arrive.
so much changes very close not all can fail but even i wont like all of them.
But enough for now with lower temperatures this weekend its time to prepare for the next seasons.
sorry i cant afford to waste more of my time with lazy and ignorant people open your eyes and listen to the people that stream ptr and the game not this flashmobsiege from private profiles endlessly talking trash for any game that is no longer hyped.
restart at the fresh serves if you dare so you wont disturb my sisters loggin into their home with a queue.
Because soo much is different already now than shortly after the lauch numerous update note pages and even more very soon to be exspected even for unimportant things like pvp for roleplayers like myself.

Game will be much more vibrant in a week when the next big patch is released. The trolls certainly won't tell you about that. Wait a week and check back on the population as many players will return once there is more to do.

Yes. Avoid this forum it has be found to be infested with game hating trolls. My server is active. Its not dead.

This game is a decent pick-up on sale, if you treat it mostly as a Skyrim with some MMO features. Explore, quest, enjoy the different combat/builds, gathering etc. If you have a very strong pc you can even enjoy it on ultra settings (has very bad optimization for mid or low pcs tho).

Then once you hit 60, you'll quickly realize how trash the gearing, endgame, balance etc etc is and move on. But that will take you 100+ hours if you just take your time, and the leveling/exploring is excellent.

Last "big update" saw the game bump up 4k and then lose 6k within a month after that. Feel free to check the steam charts. These updates have only brought a solo dungeon and more boring zerg chest runs. There's no meaningful content to do in this game and the grind just isn't fun.

As long as you don't look at the player count and the fact 98% of the total population quit you'd be correct.
