Steam Deck - New World

After doing some digging on various forums and YouTube tutorials I still can not get my Steam Deck to run New World. I got my Steam Deck in October 2022.

The furthest I get the game to run is when paired to my phone as a mobile Hotspot and not my wifi. I am able yo log in and select my character. Once my character is selected and I enter click to enter the game I get about 1-2 minutes of loading then it just exits to the Steam home screen.

I even have the game set to the lowest graphic settings. I have also tried a factory reset.

Has anyone had any luck getting New World to run on the Deck?

I have been emailing support back and forth for a few days and they ended up just stopped replying. I am extremely frustrated right now. I would refund if I could but I went over the 2 hour limit just trying to get the dang thing to run.

Its extra frustrating because on the store page it says the game is "playable" and not "unsupported" Amazon Games Support has emailed me directly saying that the game should run so they are aware people are playing on Deck. They sent me a lot of the same "fixes" that I have found in various forums and youtube videos. Nothing has worked.

Hmm maybe you have a case for a refund. Sometimes if you explain that the game kept crashing you may get a refund. Some people have gotten to get a refund by typing in the issues In the refund screen. But, at the same time it does not always happen. Worse case is just trying and explain yourself and maybe you will get it. If you try, good luck!

In all honesty I just wish the game would work for me. I'm dont *want* to refund the game because its bad, its because I just cant play it. I'm hoping they will get it working sometime soon. If they dont get it resolved somewhat soon I might start looking into it. Im going to open another support ticket after the new year and attach screen shots of all the steam threads of users various issues and comments on them as well as some common things that are reported to work but arent for a lot of users. I'm also going to be sure to attach a screenshot of the store page saying the game is verified as playable. If they dont get it fixed they need to remove it because there are dozens of threads about steam deck not working right now.

You would think that this would be something that they would have a team for. Especially since the game is verified as playable. From what I can see online, it seems like the steam deck is doing very well and I have seen so many post about the deck and new world specifically. It may not be a huge part of the playerbase but advertising your MMO as verified for on the go play seems like it would be a big attraction for a lot of people if I had to guess. I'm not a dev or in marketing but from what I can see as a consumer it looks like it would make sense from the outside. Especially since new world and amazon games need some good will and positive word of mouth after the first year of the game not going great.

I have been able to get my stead deck to use New World but you cannot go to a city or it crashes. Try playing on the PC and leaving a city if your in one. Then log out and try to boot it up on your deck. Seems to work for me. If i log off in a city, then play on the deck it does what you described. Loads for a bit then just exits.

The issue for me is that I do not have a windows PC capable of running New World. The Deck is my only pc gaming device lol.

I can get to the character screen on my deck but it won’t log into the world for me. Says unable to connect to server check internet connectivity.

Right, same here. The only way i was able to get around that was to turn on my mobile hot spot on my phone and connect my steam deck to that. From there i can get to at least the login screen and select my character. But that's where my luck runs out and it will crash while loading in.

Something about new world on deck doesnt like a lot of peoples wifi. I have read that some people have had luck forcing the game to use their wifis 2.4 connection and not its 5g connection but that fix did not help me. I can still only use my hotspot or a wired connection. I still cannot log into the game while my character is in a city though.

I understand that. And you are 100% right cause if they say it's deck verified and it's not, that's false advertisement. Sure you will have a good case about it.

Ok i have figured it out and am able to play New world on deck. First enable developer mode on your steam deck in the system settings then go all the way down to the new developer tab and disable “Enable Wifi Power Management” then restart
This fixes the unable to connect to server message and shows proper connection status

Second for some reason the new world install script for me did not install the proton easy anti cheat script. So after the restart in the search bar at the top search for “ Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime” For me it said it was in my library but not installed. Install it

launch new world after should work just fine.


Edit* Yeah definitely don’t go into town… Freezes up in town and steam deck restarted . So basically unplayable.

It’s back to saying unable to connect to sever since trying to enter town. I can still see a ping with the world server list so it may be some kind of instanced shard server system that you transfer into when going into town. Any of my characters in a town are unable to connect.

YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUP. Its a hassle to even get the game to run at all and then once you get going and make to a town it just breaks.
