OPR is Horrific!
OPR is the worst conceived game ever. Without any consideration to matchmaking, Amazon consciously throws players together and the result is horrific, atrocious and cruel outcomes. I say consciously because this isn’t an oversight, it is by intent.

Amazon allows a few highly geared players to dominate. They are unkillable. Often taking luck and a half dozen players or more to take them down. These players dominate the less-geared players and search them out in another form of digital bullying. Games scheduled for 45 minutes are over in 5. Scores I have screen shot are 22 to 1006. It becomes so bad, that players can not even leave the spawn fort, cannot get the minimum score and are eviscerated in the process often pounded and pummeled only to have the other player stand over their remains with intimidating gestures.

And in this process, Amazon allows for teams. Yes, teams!! Pure killing teams. These colloquial “premades” of bullies as I call them, reign shear terror. Often chasing players from one side of the map to the other. I don’t think Amazon knows that several teams of 5 like as in a company can group up, coordinate, and synchronize their entry into OPR to heighten the dominance even further using discord.

Is this fun? It is not. Is it competitive? It is not. I feel anger for being victimized and publicly brutalized. I am building a vault of seething contempt for Amazon Gaming in every OPR instance.

So, what do players do, they blame each other. Oh yeah, “dex” players share the bulk of the rath. “There are too many bows and not enough bruisers. You here that ALL the time. The game is terribly designed. Heavy melee bruisers fight inside the points/forts. Light range players are relegated to fight outside the fort and play by shooting through the doors. This can never be opium. My scores as a range player are considerably lower than melee. There are exceptions as I try to refine my approach to always get better. During game time, I receive considerable grief from my own team mates. But this is not my problem but by design or god-forbid the incompetence of Amazon Gaming. Range vs Melee, creates a lot of serious animosity and derision resulting in outbursts of profanity and accusations challenging your very existence to breathe.

The most perplexing part of this scenario are my team mates. The player next to me from the previous game as I wait for the game to start, chased me all over the map, just pummeled me into a low-grade mixture of pig fodder for the third time is now my team mate. Should I be thrilled? Absolutely not. Giving in to my animal and competitive instincts, I feel vengeful and do very much want my revenge. So, what do I do, I shoot his butt with explosive arrows while I can as I wait for the game to start.

Can this be solved? Yes. One, don’t start the game without a full compliment of players. This happens all the time, 16 vs 20 is not fair. Try to do match making. Make sure there an equal number of players on both sides starting with healers, ranged and melee. Then consider gear, gear scores, experience or what ever data AG has to try to make the play experience better balanced. Balance, I realize in unachievable but do try.

As it is now, it is the most demeaning MMO experience anyone could ever have. Are there worse, likely but AG has done a really good job in making New World a front runner in my humble opinion. BTW, I have sent in a number of tickets on this issue without acknowledgment, or solution.

So what you are saying is you don't want to grind gear but want to win in OPR?

Too funny.

Don't you know that having PvP entirely gear based is the most fun way to play MMOs. Like why would they make any effort to somewhat balance gear so its not a huge gap?

Name one game that is PvE focused and has PvP modes that is also balanced, allowing majority of players to play game, bet you can't. Even if you could i'm sure it would be some small indi game that is dying, unlike new world the best MMO out there.

That's kind of how MMORPGs work. Build various treadmills to keep players playing. If you want non-gear based equality, then shooters have that. Then you describe the basic ranged vs melee issue.

"During game time, I receive considerable grief from my own team mates."

Yea, my general PvP experience in every game that allows communication is a social ♥♥♥♥ bag experience, especially opposing players. The same team stuff abuse happens with the over-competitive no lifers.

Then as you describe, no lifer pre-made teams vs randoms never turns out pretty.

You forgot to mention the aim-hack range players sitting on the rocks and hitting every shot. Along with the lack of matchmaking that was a big reason I quit. Nothing the player can do, and apparently nothing AGS can do.

When my company grouped up for OPR we often had boring dominating games, Funny thing was when we queued individually and were split up and fought on different teams, we had fun, intense competitive games that often went down to the last tick.

Sadly, the vast majority of MMO players want rewards and not competition. They consider competitive games 'a waste of time' and will do whatever they can to avoid them.

what the hell did you expect? a high gear player to be weak?

if you dont like the game THAT much, then its not for you. stop crying

Welcome to min/maxing, Been around since the beginning of time. Dark age of Camelot (released 1998) had what were called gank groups. 8 man killing machine teams. The best could beat 4-5 times their numbers in open fights. Gear was pretty easy to equalize, Their teamwork, coordination, and active skill/class choices harmonizing, were what made them killers.

Its not much different here. Add in discord, time spent together practicing, and making the perfect classes and gear for a 5 man team. Your going to see the same outcomes.

The response to this is simple "git gud". You have access to do the same as they do.

wow
using adjectives like "horrific", "cruel", "atrocious" and using phrases like "reign shear(sp) terror" to describe a stupid game ( they gave $$ to daddy j) because they're salty losers is just pure comedy lol :D

they cant balance a game when casuals cant even get the gear to even compete. amazon fails to understand there own system by just putting up a FKING RNG wall and requiring 2 perks to even stay alive on all 5 pieces of gear is just bad design there is no progression in PVP when anyone with luck and a lot and i mean a lot of playing time to even get the gear required to do any damage. also the light gear that pretty much is top dog bc heavy armor only reduces damage by 10% of light what a joke, and medium armor is just a joke to be in the game. they need to get rid of heavy and light gear and make all the gear the same def then they can work on the bigger problem the perks

necro... this op made me laugh

i wanted to try to use a musket despite the fact i have not really got the gs up on it, its average was somewhere around 560

i hit a guy 5 times and he wasnt even below half health. Meanwhile i got shot once and after the powder burn i was around 20%....

i wasnt in any kind of pvp gear, just open world 590 gear but this is the most asymmetrical game i have ever played... having spent a small amount of time on it messing with crafting and farming i had a glimpse of what it would actually take to be all bis, and aside from alot of rng the sheer amount of time would be insane... this is just to even be able to compete, throw in the lag and the lack of matchmaking... seriously why would anyone do this

Sadly is true 200%,

well this game at first been designed as a pure pvp war game, than devs changed direction to pve elements when they realized that only few will play it, being aware that will not beat any other pure pvp game out there. So the game is a big compromise mess which is under development for at least 2 more years.
If peoples looking for balanced pvp in a game than play other games made specific for that, otherwise here you might have no chance if you not a dedicated player trying to be the "best" in a broken environment.

Happy New Year :santa_hat:
Unlike most posts I agree with everything you said.

That's correct. OPR is completely noncompetitive. It's a straight up terrible mode.

Also correct I play in the same way your describe. Fully geared in true bis for every good weapon and I understand the game far too well to be fighting 95% the competition.

I'm truly invincible and only die if the risk is a conscious decision (usually trolling the chasers).

Immediately after getting the buffs (any player without buffs is 17% weaker than me). I run to start back capping. It's super simple..

Destroy door, destroy shrine and back cap until it becomes too contested and then start spawn camping. Been on the server so long anyone who's name I don't recognize is a free kill if I want it.

The best part is that this wins the game. It simply takes too many resources (players) to stop someone with bis gear and this playstyle.

OPR can never be competitive because there is no matchmaking.

People only pretend to play OPR but really are playing team deathmatch. (At start everyone runs to mid instead of capturing the first outpost) (they chase kills instead of standing on point).

I'm trying to make an effort everyday to say in global we need modes where "performance matches placement". That means team deathmatch, free for all and 1v1 ladder mode.

Famed players need something to keep them going. Something like winrate history, matchmaking and better end game analytics. Maybe rewards based on performance like the war chests.
