Just to clerify - AGS (Amazon Game Studios) does not exist anymore

I see a lot of people writing AGS and Amazon Game Studios, when they talk about various stuff (both negative and posetive)

But that division does not exist anymore.

Amazon Game Studios was destroyed and repurposed into Amazon Games in 2020.
There are obvious reasons as to why they did this, but that I wont comment on here (its way to political in nature)

But just to be clear AGS does not exist anymore, AG does.


Hopefully Amazon Games will try to steer this game into a more popular direction soon, since its been struggling lately and the trends showcase a game in severe danger of becoming low populated with no fish/whales.

F2P might save it in 2022, but I feel like that would lose its overall potential and damage its future for those that wanted a more PvE focused experience (New World was only in development for 1 year as a Action Themepark MMO, before that it had 4 years of Full Loot Survival PVP MMO.

In an essence, Amazon Games only worked on the last year of development.

People know what I mean when I use AGS, and if the fact that the company had a restructuring and made a minor change to thier name makes people go ... REEEEEE! ... for me not using the updated name, it meand they are probably not the kind of people whose opinions I value anyways, whether they agree or disagree with me.

So you would also call Google for Backrub ? Or Sony for Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo ?

It matters because, its a different structure now and actually made a lot more changes than you think... not just "lets get a fresh shine and some economical up sides"

But well.... Do you think Relentless will give this division some more funding in the new year?

if it were some major change, like "best gaming studios" as opposed to that last letter meaning studios instead of just being the s in games, that would be one thing.

but seeing as how that last letter can be the s in games, as in AG'S, or AGS' or AGs, or even the used AGS, it is a weird thing to have an argument about.

Not wanting to go too much into details. But isn't the most obvious reason (in general) a studio dissolves and gets up with same people again, that they either have to wash clean their names again because either their games failed or their kind of business? Don't really know what was the case here, but judging other studios who did this often had this.

That is certainly one of the more used reaons sure. Former Amazon Game Studios was a division under Amazon. Basically a part of Amazon, but in a discrete manner.
It is called a division, but while some are more integrated than others, Amazon Games (its new changes) are rather independent when it comes to corporate and legal affairs.

In short, it is just Amazon trying to have its own company for game developing and publishing, while still being in full control and being able to economically influence it. The legal part however is rather important in this aspect and why they choosed to pick a division.

Whole Foods is a good example of a subsidiary, they are independing companies, with their own economy, legal and corporate affairs, but all in all, they are still part of the conglomerate (Amazon)

TLDR:
In many ways, Amazon have become a conglomerate, well tbh... lets call it a uprised mega conglomerate. Basically Amazon have a large market of different industries, that they control, either again directly or via subsidiaries (or even divisions) In Amazon´s case, they ie have control of raw materiel, production and distribution, on many fields.

Some may also call these Megacorps or Monopolies.

Yes and while on one hand I want the game to improve. But on the other hand I would also like to it shut down entirely. Just to see the nerds who constantly bash it go full rage knowing their insults and rage got them nothing and they have to find something else to hate. I mean honestly one can never have enough salt and msg for their Pork and Ramen while browsing the hate posts.
