They'll not admit to anything, period.
The best thing that could happen would probably be for Amazon to sell it to another studio. The game has tremendous potential, but I don't see it being realized under the direction I've seen from this studio.
And we can never even know what happened. Amazon is a huge corp and this is just another facet of things they've gotten their paws into. There are going to be layers upon layers of administration and politics behind all of this. And if any of it even leaks out, you just have to believe who you want to because everyone will have their own story.
Or the game could go on like it is for a very long time. You can look at the numbers and see just how quickly they've went down. 60K at the peak now, so it's bled another 20K in the past couple of weeks. They don't need the money and so it could go either way. That's why I want them to sell it to another studio who do need the money because they will care, because they have to.
That's another thing that won't happen. Of course I'll never ask for a refund since I already have over 300 hours. When it's time to move on, I just move on.
Who would buy it? If anyone showed interest in it Amazon/AGS would overprice it. Then whoever bought it would have to spend more money and years to re-vamp the game.
Plus, as an IP and setting for an MMORPG 'New World' is pretty moronic.
IMHO, the most likely scenario is that they just keep on wasting money and time until the game is completely eclipsed by other games ... Lost Ark ... Elden Ring ... Ashes of Creation ... the RIOT MMORPG ... and the other unknowns in or about to enter the pipeline.
Then Amazon will wake up and realize that being more like TENCENT is the way to profit in gaming, and start buying promising studios with promising games.
And the Devs at AGS will announce plans to develop "EVERQUEST NEXT NEXT" ... and when that flops they'll disappear.
In my opinion, New World is a copycat of Black Desert Online. Intended for the western market. But New World doesn't come close to the quality of Black Desert. Black Desert has a lot more gameplay mechanics, a much bigger world.
top grade coupium right there
There are many reasons why that will never happen.
Name a few
Yeah, expecting a dev team to be competent is over the top crazy. I bet it's racist, isn't it? Of course it is.
1. Dont be silly.
2. In the last 2 decades of mmorpgs, only one comes to mind that ever shut down and offered full refunds. If you think Amazon would do this, see point 1.
FFXIV is successful and has retainers that allow you to post up to 20 items to auction. Can have 2 for free then pay monthly sub for each additional you have. Don't think people would like that...
Amazon is about making money. Your suggestion costs them money, it doesn't make them money.
