Stuff in your inventory takes damage when you die too. So that will need repairing constantly as well.
Overall I have given up on the concept of repair kits. The T5 ones would save you some coin if you just used them on your weapon or any other expensive item(s) but if you port around then remember that port costs are based in part on your weight so you are paying to carry those around in loss of bag capacity and in azoth.
The T5 takes what? 150 engineering to craft? (Not positive sorry) and that's going to take a lot of work. You would not spend that much time and money to get 150 eng just to craft kits.
If you get to 150 eng for other reasons then it might be a bit of a win to craft the odd kit now and again. Don't set it as a goal though.
There is just too much repairing to do and it needs to be done far too often. Just use gold and the scrapped bits and forget about it unless it happens naturally.
