Gaslighting Others In New World

by "Gaslighting" you mean telling others that "New World" is great and then telling them they have problems if they don't agree???

Definition: Gaslighting is a colloquialism that is loosely defined as "making someone question their own reality". The term may also be used to describe a person who effectively puts forth a false narrative which leads another person or a group of people to doubt their own perceptions and become disoriented or distressed.

Within the boundaries of and MMO, you are the KING or QUEEN of your ability to interact with other players. You can block players, determine which chats you will have active at any point, etc.

It is hard to determine if gaslighting rises to the level of abuse when you are perfectly capable of muting or blocking another player.

The boundaries of gaslighting would probably become especially blurred when any kind of roleplay is involved. Someone speaking in character as a Covenant, Syndicate, or Marauder faction member could technically be accused of gaslighting.

Honestly -- it is too much trouble because the definition could be to general or fluid, especially for an alternate reality MMO. If you feel someone is attempting to gaslight you, simply mute or block them. That is my suggestion. Who cares what they think? You are there to enjoy the game and the fellowship of your fellow players, right? Good Luck and Have Fun!

No, that is absolutely not at all difficult to determine. It definitely rises to the level of abusiveness. Often with gaslighting, it's not even realized until the abuser has had weeks, months or even years to operate. As much as it would be wonderful to be the case, gaslighting is rarely detectable up front -- esp. by a practiced sociopath.

I'm genuinely curious as to why or how gaslighting could EVER fail to rise to the level of abuse. It's one of the worst forms of mental and emotional abuse.

My point was being made within the context of the game environment. If you allow another player to focus on you in chat -- sending DMs, or even getting into it on Global, JUST BLOCK THAT PLAYER. You honestly do not have to deal with it. YOU have all the power and control. If EVERYONE blocks that person, they become irrelevant. It is as simple as that.

I agree. The question was about whether or not it rose to the level of abuse, however, and that was what I was answering. Gaslighting is definitely abusive. I'm glad we can agree on that.

yea happens constantly for or im told the issues are fake. yet they happen lol. this weird ass with the pink person pfp and a frog for a name is on literally every single negative thing about new world gaslighting others btw. not shocked he found his way here so fast. only commenting to make that known. hes either someone who dropped 10k real money on the game somehow and hell bent on defending it. or hes a bot/amazon paid person. either way its getting stupid. when I say half the abilities dont work as intended blah blah in game chat just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ jumps on me like a pack of wolves like im insulting their mother. and says thats not true. its fake that guy click baits etc etc. yet theres unedited video proof. not to mention giant sausages in chat im sure now (I stopped playing after they made the auction house start deleting money in a game I already wait days to sell anything and its only sold offline really) the chat bug may be funny with sausages but it can be used to create virus's and crash games prob too. that and other very minor issues keep happening. in a pvp game where the perks and skill trees dont even do what it says they do how is that not game breaking? I had to play with 0 territory all the way to lvl 60 because green on my server abused the lag war exploit. I called it out global jumped on me saying its bs. then weeks later the GAME DEVS THEMSELVES list it as an issue they fixed supposedly meaning it was real and I had to spend 370 azoth to travel anywhere. I had to get reduced xp and get mocked in global by the ones abusing it. yea ok whatever im level 60 now its done and over with. but not even the perks or skill trees work at all or as intended.... in a pvp game. I actually mostly quit because I got sick of them defending it and saying dont let the door hit you on your way out or shut up no one cares etc. I had to play on hard mode and got mocked the entire time by the ones abusing the bugs/glitches. then if I said anything I was the bad guy I got ganged up on as if I did anythign wrong. kind of stupid. how do we know luck gear even works? what if only the boots and gloves of X luck gear works and only Y of this luck gear works. and you spend 4k for them or more. this goes for all items/weps gathering tools, bags, perks on gear and gears stats even. trophies etc. we cant tell if any of it works without testing it over and over because we cant trust the devs word for it since its proven things like great axe pull reduces damage on heavy hit from 2300 to 1700 and that skill is purely just pull the target. no % damages or anything. apparently theres more now ive heard (havent been playing so idk) like infinite berserk with hatchet, infinite bloodrush. and ive seen footage of rapid fire fire staff and light staff autos. spamming crouch in healing pools to rapid heal and probably much more. I have noticed things being off for the weps ive been using every now and then where something just didnt feel right on what it said but never tested it. and then later find out about weapons I dont even use having such drastic bugs. how is that not game breaking in a pvp based game? someone rapid healings. someone constantly getting timed buffs. someones damage reduced for no reason. perks not working or bugging to make people only use a certain set of gear or lose then to top it all off war lag exploit and the invincibility glitches or crashing peoples games in or before war. I had 2-3 guys on my war team game crashed and couldnt re open and almost missed the war the very last war I played. and that was before everyone knew about the game crashing thing if you hover your cursor over something someone coded in chat just like the giant sausages. who knows how many have had their bank accounts or accounts and etc stolen by virus's being put into peoples computers and etc just by them hovering an item in chat. thats game breaking these people do nothing but gaslight. probably children who dont understand how things work or have any experience with game breaking issues in previous games thinking they can pull an opinion from their ass and its fact and everyone else is lying. I'm convinced they will do what ARK did with legacy servers and a fresh clean start of servers once alls fixed. either that or just wipe it like ATLAS but either way these servers are toast if not the game.

and let me finish by saying I enjoyed the game, got my moneys worth and etc but I want a future for the game not just here and now then watch it die then move on. and had they released the game in Early access and said that we are just testing everything and learning the game and once they release they will make official servers wiping these. I would have played and had zero issues with it and wouldnt even complain because the devs themselves said none of this is permanent or matters just have fun with it even if its broken basically. but no the idea atm is these servers, this economy is permanent and anyone who exploits all this wins until we fix it. all the bots all the duped items/gold all the cheating of any kind. its rewarded as a permanent keep until they fix it (and I highly doubt they actively ban anyone) I reported a lvl 28 fishing bot who would spam fgjkfgfk in global every like 5 mins and instant cast realed (which is because bots can see if its legendary or not instantly) and weeks later hes still there. my low pop server I had over 22 gold selling spamming bots muted which clearly means many are paying to win. the economy is .01 per resource to sell because of these bots too and so on. point being if none of this was portrayed as permanent id be fine enduring and testing so they could fix it for the full release and just enjoy whats there or whats working. but they imply everything was working on release and come to find the perks. skills and so on are likely all not working or bugged. thats shady. then they released the t65 portals and they announced "we will not be punishing those who abused this exploit" when they were only out for hours and there was no "exploit" thats a huge red flag they push the blame on the players and then forgive the players as if the players could have ever known there was an exploit with portals. The portals gave higher tier loot than was intended and spawned faster than intended (spawned as fast as other portals) thats not an exploit... thats how they released them and how was anyone ever supposed to know they were taking advantage of the system if thats the only part of it theyve ever seen. this major red flag of pushing blame onto the players and even mentioning that bans came into their head from their own mistake shows how they will handle things in the future

theres nothing wrong liking the game or sharing your support. I love the parts of the game that works too. but most are upset with how massive the dev team is owned by a multi billion dollar company and theres this many issues occuring and each patch they make new ones too. if you like the game great we are all happy for you go play it enjoy it. but sitting in forums arguing with those who have a different opinion from yours or are making fair points on how things shouldnt be in this state for the game isnt you enjoying the game its just doing exactly what you are saying here to others.

All that being said very good job on what does work in new world amazon. you made a very fun game in the parts that arent gamebreaking or concerning.

others are allowed to be upset just as you are allowed to like it.

think of new world as a beautiful and I mean beautiful cruise ship. We all purchased our room for 40$ and got to go on a wonderful cruise and plan to go on future cruises with our purchased rooms. But as we are on the ship someone spots a leak, then another leak and more and more people spot leaks. We alert the captain he thanks us and says his team will take care of it. But then someone goes to the spot where they are fixing it and see them drilling holes in the ship making more holes in the process of sealing the prior leak. They report that and the cycle repeats until the ships slightly submerged. The people who know how ships work are concerned theyve been on ships before and a ship filling with water is not good. They start warning the other passengers that the captain doesnt know what hes doing and is going to sink the ship. They just laugh, mock and insult you for any form of concern. as theyre knee deep in water. The water gets deeper and deeper. you decide to hop onto a different ship for the moment out of concern the ship will sink fully. some time goes by and you hear on the news that ship sits at the ocean floor. You feel saddened remembering the wonderful cruises you experienced on that ship and how it was such a waste to just let it sink.

Now the ship company is given two choices. Rebuild an entirely new ship using salvageable parts from the old one or just let it be and not make a new ship.
The captain and his crew just keep saying to themselves. if only we took it back to port to repair it in time for the remainder of their lives.

I am glad you like it too and I support your right to voice your criticisms in this forum too. But people who support the game are allowed to post as well. That's part of the joy of discussion and debate, not everyone will agree with you and there is nothing wrong with that. As long as we are discussing the game and not insulting each other personally there is nothing wrong. I don't try or want to insult or get other people mad, I'm happy that other people with different opinions are allowed to speak here just like I am
