Pvp games are more Popular/Played, but why does pvp fail in mmos?
Discuss.
I mean look at the top played games, shooters, strategy or whatever they are all pvp. So pvp by a large margin is the preffered game style.

Mmorpg player base is rather small in the larger gaming sense but more toward pve for some reason and pvp in Mmorpg usually fails.

Why do you think?
Personally I blame the whole leveling system, gear upgrades etc Wich causes imbalance. Mmorpg in general need a rework.

Idk but i played a lot of pvp in WoW and it worked very well for me to be honest ;-)

I also think you underestimate the amount of people who like to play pve, especially in coop.

I think, it's mostly instancied/arena PvP that's popular, open world PvP in a RPG not so much
In the games genre that you listed, there is something they all have, it's the fact that player start at the same point that other player, no better gear, no added skills, only some equipment thats game devs try to balance.

Not underestimating.
It's just numbers, not saying its a small number, but compared to pvp games, it's pretty miniscule.

The only half decent pve game that even stands a chance vs pvp games is Minecraft.

And pvp in wow, well its. Not a pvp only game for one its a side activity. I enjoyed pvp in wow, but running into the same people so often kinda proved that not that many people played it and every expansion was moaning about imbalance. Played since vanilla, but I played it for the raids n some pvp, if I wanted actual pvp I'd just play csgo Or something.

Nah, PVP games aren't better. That's just you theory casting. Is the witcher PVP?

PVE is more fun because AI is usually smarter than most players .

Well yeah, that's the imbalance bit I was talking bout. I don't have money to make my own game but I got decent ideas on how to remake rpgs overall for more balance.

Theory casting? The witcher?
Mate, literally look at the most played games. Either on pc, console or mobile.
Top are pvp games. That's a fact tho.
And the best Mmorpg barely gets close in numbers.

I think the major difference between PvE and PvP designed games is that a PvE focused game can be finished, PvP designed game tend to have a better replayability but can still become boring

PvP in new world doesn't really reward you with anything.
There is no pvp sets, aside of faction armor you can get in 1 day.
There are no pvp ranks, like in gw2, wow and aion.
You can't be Emperor, like in ESO.
There are no unique cosmetics.
There are no drama outside of Wars, because you don't lose ♥♥♥♥.
Pvp for the sake of pvp is a niche thing, outside of games like shooters and mobas.
People in mmo love to work toward something, they need a goal.

I would say that is the starting point, the differences between every part of gear you have compared to ohers people gear. And i think having disadvantage in a duel where the other person is 3 lvls ahead of you its okay, but most people dont think that way.
In this game, you can killl someone who is 10 or 20 lvls ahead, its going to be hard but not impossible. I firmly believe that New World should have PVE Servers (With PVP flagged system) and PVP (only) Servers, this game is oriented and purelly crafted as a pvp ambient, you have 3 skills, you can only use 2 weapons at the same time, its easy to start with but hard to master, and thats awesome

You can create a RPG without character leveling, there is a Tabletop game like this, i don't remeber it's name (never played it)

Well, people were talking a lot about numbers in the last days and i somehow came to the conclusion that in case of mmos you cant really rely on them. I just think that the number of people who enjoy pve content is much bigger as it sounds from your words (no offense).

When it comes to WoW pvp, i had a phase where i did nothing else then that, but im sure you are right here. Most people see it more as a side activity. I just didnt like that you say it does fail in mmos, i think it works, it works just diffrently as in games where it is the main focus.

because pvp gamers are flamers, haters and abusers. it's not about pvp for the most, it's about dominiating others virtually. any dirty trick is acceptable for them.

who wants to deal with that?

there is a big difference between PvP and Pk
Pk needs a good balance between risk / reward or it just ends up in pointless griefing that most people hate.
