Funny how everyone calls it DPS and not DD....

while DPS means damage per second and every class has that value. DD is often referred to as Damage Dealer.
So if you want to find someone who deals a lot of damage you'd say:
LF DD.

But somehow some people seem to have decided to post DPS and now everyone using that term, or is it maybe a regional thing!?

Havent seen any other mmorpgs with that term to be honest and I played them all.
DD is for me the right way to say it and I play MMOs since Meridian59 and Ultima Online and on the servers I played rarely someone said DPS, knowing the term doesnt make sense when you are looking for a "role".

Or is that just on my server? ;)

Correct, but the original dota was hardly mainstream enough for anyone to care or notice the terminology until League popularized the genre. Ask a thousand gamers where ADC came from, and they'll likely say League because hardly anyone played DOTA1 in comparison. I mentioned HoN because it was the first rendition of DOTA that actually WAS popular at large.

In Russia DD indicates a role and DPS used for actual damage done. At least as far as I remember.

So much misinformation. DPS existed as a word alone with DD. Damage dealer was always what it meant. Specific games doesn't automatically make it direct damage. DPS always mean Damage Per Second. When people English, I'd read "Looking for damage per second.". The correct response would be to tell them to use their weapon or use a faster character. Out of those 39 years, how many non-english MMOs did you play over in Asia? This is the part everyone is conveniently disregarding, which changes the entire narrative they are trying to push if they acknowledge it.

Nobody is saying DPS is wrong and DD is right. What is being said is, DPS is NOT the universal end all be all phrase to denote that role.

DPS is primarily used in English speaking places, while DD is primarily used in Asian cultures. (Germans too, which I did not know).

Someone else also pointed out a while back, that if you were to use DPS in its full form, it wouldnt actually make sense, but using DD in its full form, does.

"I am looking for a damage per second"!! "Hey, I need a damage per second to run ragefire chasm"

Now, if you substitute it for "I am looking for a damage dealer"!! "Hey, I need a damage dealer to run Ragefire Chasm", I hope you can see the difference.

Every class does damage.
But since the beginning of video games, every MMO was made with a certain set of roles.
Thats why we have so often the roles of Healer, Tank and Damage Dealer.
Thats why Damage Dealer or DD is they way more correct form to ask.
Cause even when a Tank can do Damage, his role and function in a Raid or Dungeon is NOT to make Damage.

I'm not the one that believes his opinion is the correct one and all others are wrong. I didn't contradict myself at all. I pointed out that using the terms in the wrong way to prove one is more correct than the other doesn't work. You haven't refuted anything because it's both just opinions and neither is wrong or incorrect. You're only argument is damage dealer, not DD, works better in a sentence that 99% of the MMO population wouldn't even type out as they would use DD or DPS. Again, don't expect you to understand any of this though. Just pointing out to those that read these what type of person you are if they haven't already figured it out.

I started playing mmos in 1997 and I rarely hear the term "DD". It's mostly used by first timers. While you are technically correct, the term dps has pretty much replaced the term DD a long time agi
No one says dd anymore.
