Anyone else know any other settings to better optimize the game? I'm actually looking to lower game performance in order to lower temps. So things I could turn off or limit are what I'm looking for.
if all that is good and ur still having cpu temp issues congrates, u have a lemon. i also have a lemon. stock voltage with custom liquid cooling and 6.5GPM flow i would hit 100c during stress tests before i delided to fix.
I can play Dark Souls 3 and World of Warships with no issues. I have lots of other games that work just fine.
My hardware is fine. This game is terribly unoptimized.
I'm still fiddling with settings. I'll update if I can find something that works better.
I was poking around in the game folder looking for an .ini file with settings I could change that weren't listed in the in-game menu. Unfortunately I didn't find one. But I did find a folder for "Easy Anti Cheat" which I looked up and it seems that this anti-cheat software is known for being a CPU hog.
Apparently it's the same anti-cheat software used in Fortnight and I've found threads on other forums where they have been trying registry edits to change easy ant-cheat's CPU priority to reduce it's CPU usage.
However I suspect the primary reason for the high temps is GPU stress. Since I am using an APU both of these issues are combined into 1 chip.
I was poking around in my Radeon control panel and they have a thing called "Radeon Chill" that lets you set a maximum FPS cap. Unfortunately I can't turn it down lower than 30 FPS. I would like to set it to 25. All I can do is disable Radeon Chill and set the 30 FPS limit in game.
If I could find an .ini file with a FPS limit inside it, I bet I could edit it manually and set a FPS limit of 25 and see if that improves my temps.
In Power Options:
Click the plus sign + next to "AMD Graphics Power Settings"
Click the plus sign + next to "AMD Powerplay Settings"
*Change the setting to "Optimize Battery"*
My system doesn't have a battery, but I believe this reduces power to the GPU when it's not being actively used. This seemed to help a little bit?
Also I updated my Radeon Graphics software to the latest version
In the Radeon Software settings for New World:
I turned on Radeon Chill and set the maximum FPS to 30.
I turned off Radeon Image Sharpening
This has helped a little bit. I've been playing about an hour now and haven't seen the CPU temperature hit 100C.
In town when there are lots of other players running around I hit about 90 to 92C.
What this means is it's a software problem - we need more graphics controls in the game.
Things they could do:
1. Let us set our own maximum FPS by entering a number, instead of selecting 3 settings from a list.
2. Completely turn shadows off.
3. See if they can doing something in the backend to enable better throttling? I don't care if I get a little stutter now and then as long as my temp stays below 90C.
4. My temp seems to suffer the most when there are lots of other players around. Is there anything they can do to address this?
^ According to this the Ryzen 5 3400G should throttle at 95C.
So I don't know why or how New World was able to push it to 105C?

Have you tried GPU-Z? and does it show the same CPU temperatures?

"Is There Anything Else I Need To Know?
Yes, actually. The Ryzen CPU depends heavily on a low-power state called cc6 sleep. In this sleep state, core clockspeeds and voltages are basically nil as the core is sleeping and gated. It is not possible to report out the state of the core in this sleep state without waking the core, probing the status, and killing the power savings of cc6. Therefore, MOST tools can only show you the last clock and voltage of the core before the core went to cc6. So if you were at full 4.5GHz+ boost @ 1.48V, then the core went to sleep, many tools might show the core(s) stuck at that value. The tool just doesn't know any better.
However, the latest version of AMD Ryzen Master can uniquely show you clocks and voltages in a cc6 state. No other tool can do it. Neat piece of info for the people looking to understand how their core behaves!
tl;dr: Observer effect bad. You can't always trust your tools. CPU-Z gives you the right idle voltage. We'll look at the rest. Thank you everyone for your reports and insight, which helped us get to the bottom of this once and for all."
I installed Ryzen Master and it's showing my CPU temp under 70C while I'm running the game.
I feel better now. This is much more acceptable.
But when I played the game, it used boost clock. Speedfan read the cores stuck in boost clock and thought it was running at a scorching 105C.
Ryzen Master is showing under 70C during gameplay. Because it can read the cores using cc6 sleep when they aren't boosting.
This was fun.
