How is this game going to be funded?
Does anybody know how they they are going to keep this game alive by funding?

I do not think Amazon is going want to lose a ton of money on it, the 40 dollars we paid up front is not going make this game break even in the long run.

They will need at least 1M people paying 10 dollars a month to fun this game, hence, that is 120 a year, if they charge 40 dollars for each expansion, that is 3 expansions a year.

"Statista suggests that World of Warcraft’s player count is around 4.88 million as of 2020"

The market is there for a monthly fee also, just need about 20 percent of Wow market, but no way Amazon has a business plan they are going to lose money on forever.

MTX with cosmetics as primary.
After 2022, QoL items are a possibility. Right now, the only official QoL MTX item that they are talking about is a boost to rested XP. Anything else that others will mention are from dated and leaked from alpha testing suggestions that has not been confirmed ever.

There is no current plan for a monthly fee.

It is buy to play, with a cash shop. The cash shop will sell only cosmetics until 2022. What it will sell after that is unknown, but some catch-ups like xp boosts and conveniences are likely. There is no word on whether expansions will be sold or free or available in a premium membership.

And... No, lol, they do not need to bring in 10 million dollars a month to keep the game alive lol

Well, it is Amazon so I don't think they're short on experts on how to make money. They'll monitor the numbers and adjust accordingly, like you said.

Obvious note aside, they'll prob make a killing on shop cosmetics (weapon/armor skins, house furniture skins, etc).

Even tho I'm not the type that buys that stuff--I don't care that much about cosmetics (but I did buy a few things in BDO, lol). I mean, they'll have to be really good for me to swipe but there are those whales out there that will collect all of it.

And I wouldn't mind a low monthly fee but you can't expect everyone to be on board with it.

They are going to fund the game the same way EVE Online and Albion Online fund their games, by duping people who are attracted to PvE play into thinking that their game is a PvE game. They'll never need to worry about funding again.

why are you councerned about something that's not literally your business? just play and have fun

Most likely they will do a cash shop that sells shiny outfits and goofy pets. That is the business model that seems to be best received. For some reason players that won't spend 10 dollars a month for a good game experience will spend 40 dollars a month to have the latest talking parrot or blue hippo pet or feathery hat.

I prefer a subscription fee because I think it keeps out certain players that ruin gaming fun and means the people who do play are serious about the game and it leads to a more fun and dedicated community.

Either way I win. Either it's a cash shop and I never have to spend a dime on the game or it's subscription and I get a better gaming community.

Doom,

Yes, it has to be one or the other, or they constantly come up with new zones that charge for

I like how Lord of the Rings did it, they had a month fee you could pay, I think 100 a year or play for free, but it took a lot longer to get all the zones.

Hence, anybody could play for free, but it was a lot slower and if you paid you got all the zones, but either way you really had no in game advantage as you could get the zones by doing quests, etc.

That allowed a lot of different types of people to play. I just hope it does not turn into a pay to win game, that would be sad.

Maybe free for Prime users?

10 Millions a month ? Nope, that's too much man. During the first months maybe, but not on the long term. After a while the player count will stabilize and so does the cost of the game in terms of troubleshooting.

I only played lotro when it was sub only but that was a great game. It had so much to do other than quests or grinding. Hanging out in a city was a fun experience in its own.
Once it went free to play I was maxed out with not much left to achieve and the player numbers where in huge decline so I split my time with another game and eventually went full time to it.
We did try to go back but I couldn't find my old account and didn't feel like starting all over again lol.
Your Amazon prime thing could work since many who want pay to play do pay to have Amazon. I personally don't have Amazon but would get it in order to play.
My wife already has Amazon and works for Amazon so she will be covered lol.

I did like how Turbine developed the system in LoTRO to be able to make MTX currency with just the grind (via Accomplishments). I played it from Alpha till about 4 years ago. I enjoy how they did the MTX in their system. It was quite fair.

And you could use the points on any turbine game. At least at one point. I played D&D online ( I think that what it was) and got awarded cash and it was for both games.
Now I want to play lotro again lol

Agree, I prefer subs, at the very least it lowers the in game shop advertisements.

If New World ends up with a solid in game market, I could see adding something similar to PLEX in Eve or tokens in WoW. I know some think those are pay to win items but they are player driven items. You are not actually buying in game currency.

Turbine points were used in both games, yes. DDO and LoTRO.

After they handed the reigns over to publisher they created, the servers went a bit iffy. I encounter DC's in both games often when I played last.

They may be different now though.

If Amazon used their system for MTX, I can see this game becoming very popular.

Potbs also had "notes" that could be bought for cash but sold on the auction house and it always worked well it seemed. I played for 3 years with full benefits had hundreds of notes and never spent a real world dime.

It does give nice options. For the players that have the time and like market play they can buy these tokens, notes, whatever and play for free. For weekend warriors that don't care much for crafting or market play but still need some in game coin, it give an option for them. Everyone wins plus making money for game development. That does require a sub to work I think. I suppose if the store was popular enough it could offer a way to use in game currency to buy store items.
