Why is this so barebones compared to classic wow?

This games budget was far larger than classic WoWs yet in 2004 blizzard came out with a game that had like 8 races, however many classes, far bigger more detailed map and zones, better music, better more varied gear, better story, dungeons and raids, etc. more in-depth gameplay and customization, etc. I’m not ragging on this game but it’s honestly pathetic how shallow and barebones this experience is compared to something from 15 years ago… it makes me upset the level of success this game gets to achieve for creating something 1/10th of what Blizzard did in 2004.

Yes, but Warcraft have a massive lore that begun to be writen back on the 90' with books and else.
Got 3 Warcraft games before WoW was released for the first time.
Also New World was ment to be a mix between MMORPG and Battle Royales as i was told, and it's true if you analize it (The hack and slash attack, the "albion class style")

WoW has 16 years and multiple expansions under its belt. sure its the MMORPG Champ. only the Amazon cheerleaders would claim otherwise.

It may have had more budget, but at the same time inflation has almost doubled since WoW released. Also games cost much more to make now with the graphical increases since then.
