Sanctified Hull Plates seem useless (unless you jinx it by not bringing them I bet)
All weekend long we've had 0 major breaches. The last major breach we had was Tuesday.
I'm not sure if this should be adressed, but it does feel like a wasted unique fab item for the engineer

Are you repairing minor breaches?
I feel the same about that, I am very unlucky on getting major breaches.

we went with both approaches, sometimes piling up 3 minors and then we just had to repair.

I feel like they have more value on the Frigate, since it seems to simply have less space on outer hull where breaches can pop up, and that makes minor breaches turn into major more often. Destroyer just makes you rack up a lot of minor ones.

Minors upgrade to majors. Where breaches are created/upgraded is based on where damage is received. You will get breaches created/upgraded more often with higher player counts.
Agreed, they really seem useless.
Even if you really mess up hard and get hit hard, for some reason a lot of the time, you still only have like 1-2 minor hull breaches even though you just lost about 30-40% of your health. If you actually play decently well though, you will literally never run into a situation where you ever have a major hull breach.

I often play solo and I may have had a single situation where a major breach spawned.
Every other time, only minors, even if taking big damage.

I think the issue here is just that the game holds back on spawning breaches a lot.
You have to take a ton of damage before a single one spawns.

i just went down to 45% without getting one of my 3 minors upgraded to major. it really should be changed. It's an awful system that promotes not repairing your ship and relying on RNG. The only upside is that it's literally just one point and the moment you decide to play with a minor improvement somewhere else with that point you're guaranteed to get major hull breaches and regret everything.

Yeah that lines up with my own experience.
At some point you'll just blow up before getting any major hull breaches.

I personally dont find it worth much waiting for major breaches to appear, if you stack minor breaches you get a damage multiplier applied to your ship indicated by its healthbar, so you end up just taking more damage in the end. It seems neat on paper but i feel like a more reliable way to fix your ship's permanent damage would work out better.

Actually that thing just counts the number of breaches. It doesn't multiply damage.
I have a pretty nice video here where we eat four successive mine hits, each hitting for 10 dmg despite each causing another breach.

well, as it turns out from a dev stream last week, solo players are actually penalized and less likely to get major breaches to begin with, so that explains the whole thing.

Oh.
Does that actually make it easier or harder though, considering you can't use the Sanctified Hull Plates?

breaches by themselves don't do anything, damage is flat subtracted from your hitpoints and may generate a breach. So it's strictly worse to get fewer hull breaches.
