Dinkum
Bat wing drop ratio
Is it just me or does anyone else think that bat wings should be dropped by bats a bit more often then they are. I just finished a trip to the deep mines and I killed more then 50 bats this trip but only got 2 bat wings, my previous trip I killed at least 30+ bats and only got 1 bat wing that trip. At this rate it'll take me at least another 10 trips into the deep mines at least to get all the bat wings I want and then who knows how many more trips before I find that bat statue again.

the ratio might have been lowered cause you can now use the Bat Zapper

I killed 40 and got none on Sunday, killed another 40 on Saturday on another mine run. All kills done with the croc bat, zero drops.

That said, I've been mining in the dark (still somewhat early game in this save, and no miner helmet yet), so maybe I'm just missing them in the dark since the glow shroom isn't that bright.

Batwing drops are very rare. Took me a number of mine visits to get 20. I mostly used the flame bat though. I also use torches and place them everywhere for lights with a candle hat, so I doubt you're missing them because you're in the dark. They're just very rare.

Could be...got my first one tonight on my third run, and might take that idea of using torches down there, since I don't use them for anything else.

If that is what they have done that is just plain stupid, not everyone is gonna pay 100,000 dinks for a bug zapper. I've had roughly 3-4 trips down to my mine, I wear my candle hat, kill every bat I come across and I'm lucky if I see 1 bat wing drop. In my opinion they seriously need to fix the bat wing drop ratio. I've seen 3 of those bat statues in my last two trips combined and I've only managed to collect 9 bat wings from the 3-4 trips into my deep mine and 1 trip with a friend into their deep mine.

if you can't afford 100T then you have severely to step up your Dinks income sources
Dinkum it's not only about deep mining, how about fishing or hunting or treasure hunting, you can make pretty good money with all of those & even in deep mine how about rubies or all the other goodies you can find there ? 100T is nothing in Dinkum ^^
stop obsessing about bat wings & start just playing the game or if you really really really want to get bat wings, make a multiplayer deep mine session, other players will be thrilled to help you out & you get all bat wings you want to get in no time, just ask at Dinkum discord[discord.gg]

& btw Dinkum is made by a sole dev, so there is no "they"

Don't worry about wing drop ratio. When mining in Dinkum, you will be killing scores of bats for the rest of your villager life and get there, eventually.

He's trying to get to 20 for a specific reason. So that's not exactly helpful advice.

It is like the devs thinks we all have hundreds of spare hours to burn gaming. This any many other chances to spawn/drop need to be increased. There is giving your game longevity and then there is dragging it out....

it's one Developer, James. And it's early access, so these things still have time to be tweaked.

Re bat wings, It is about how you play, and how much time you spend in the first level of deep mine. It is possible to use brews and food buffs, to stay after late. However I am not sure if wings drop after 'late'.

I remember my experience was finding 3 to 4 wings every time I did a mine run. So that was about 7 mine runs to get 20 wings.

If you are really struggling with finding items compared to 'time' spent playing, you could always consider 'creative mode' using developer commands.

Similar numbers here, although on a good run maybe more like 4-5 wings. The drop rate for bat wings is awful, but the actual grind to get 20 of them wasn't bad, imo. Once you get the 20 wings you have no use for them again, so it's really just a one-time thing to farm, and in my experience it takes MUCH longer to actually get the good drops from treasure chests. In dozens of runs I've never seen a yellow glider, 1 mu saddle, 1 diggo collar, and I don't think I've ever seen a bush devil statue. Compared to dozens of miners hats, several guitars, only a few opals. The bat glider, by comparison, was relatively straight forward to get.

I am maybe getting one wing everytime I go down into a mine, sometimes not even. And that is after slaying scores of bats.

Off that drop rate, in order to get 20, I would have to frequent the mine as many times. This equates to about 500K worth of mining passes and a crap load of time....

that's pretty unlucky for wing drops - personally a mine run for me is something i do at the start of the day and i go until late. I travel in each direction and cover as much of the map as i can, but that isn't much. I mostly end up making a big circle around the mine shaft.

I use a bat zapper and have a back up one on hand. I zap bats when there is a large enough group of them following me.

So if you want the bat wings, yeah it is a 'chore' and time sink and expensive. That is why you only do the mine run for other things - the wings is just a side mission, not the focus.

Easy enough to make your money back by selling loot from chests, trapping animals or selling rubies - it isn't really a costly event if you can recover the 25000 dink for the pass.

As for 'time' that is relative - how else do you gather resources for building and crafting? how else do you gather ruby shards for the undergrove? The bat wings are an after thought when I go mining and once you have the bat wing glider they no longer matter.

however you still have to gather ruby shards to keep mining the undergrove

Hmm, then I too am having abysmal RNG or the variance is ridiculous when it comes to bat wing drops. I have dived into the Deep Mines over a dozen times now, and I still don't have 20 bat wings. And I'm not spending only 3-4 in-game hours down in these mines. I'm talking about all-day long grinds, right up to (and through) "Late" time. I've killed hundreds of bats, maybe even thousands by now, and I still only have 17 bat wings. So, from my perspective, it seems like the drop rate could be slightly tweaked to be a bit kinder.

I too am not a fan of draconian requirements just to stretch out end game. Apart from the bat wings, I'm also looking at berkonium ores as a huge offender, given I"ve now dived 5 times into the Deeper Mines, and have found exactly 2 ores. Almost every treasure house is just emeralds. I've seen 4 treasure chests, and the rest was emeralds. Granted, I made a LOT of dinks off the emeralds, and even smashed a few, but I think the chest-to-emerald ratio should also be tweaked.
