Old saves are no longer compatible or at least not guaranteed to work with the new update

If you were playing the experimental versions preceding Update 2, old saves are still there, in a nearby folder. Open the save folder from the load game screen, navigate up a level and find the saves in the folder named ExperimentalSaves (or something like that). Just move them to the current Saves folder to play.

They weren't expiremental but thank you for trying.

There are beta branches with old non-experimental releases. By installing from a beta branch that matches your old saves, you should be able to run them. You just won't be able to continue with the same colony on the new update.

Do you know where in the local filesystem they were located? Or were you using cloud saves? (Not sure if that's an option, I don't use them.)

Saying that "save files are gone" equivocates between them being gone as files in the local filesystem, and them being not shown in-game on the load game screen. Which one of these is the case?

I just checked the previous version and they still do not load in through cloud, I have looked into the folder where the files should be and there is nothing there except for the cloud file.

That's why I'm using local saves, buying on GOG, backing up savefiles with git, and whenever possible running Linux... This does look like a proper bug, hope devs get around to take a look.

I know how to fix the issue. I had the same thing. I don't know how your computer is setup, but there are 2 different locations for saves. On your one drive documents under the "Timberborn" folder, and the local files on steam. If you lost all of your saves, they will most likely be in the one drive folder for Timberborn. They don't load from your one drive, and I think the devs just added that feature to avoid situations just like this. Just copy your saves from your one drive to the local folders in steam by opening them under the "Properties" tab of the game. Hopefully this helps, it fixed the issue for me.

select your save files, copy them, then go into steam, click the settings icon for the game, click manage, browse local files, open the timberborn folder, and open the save folder typ you are using (experimental goes into experimental, normal into just saves, etc.). Then open the game. If the save files were already located in the steam folder, select them, copy them, go into your onedrive, into your documents, into timberborn, and paste the save into the correct folder (experimental goes into experimental, normal into just saves, etc.). Hope this helps.
