I have played severals maps with challenge from Timberborn.maps , which is dead actually,
on my old computer ^^
In a lot the goal was to get 1000 beavers ... i made it for alls but :
That was before ! !
only 3 kind of food, dynamite was made with papers, always the three big statues and only 5 or 6 place for leisure. the average well-being was 50 if i well remember
Also, that was totally possible to get 1000 beavers cos the half did nothing ^^
and a FPS not very genious.
Just for said where only between 100 to 160 beavers were enought to make a colonie self-sufficiency , now you will need between 300 to 400 beavers ..
Also no more possiblilites again to have more than 1000 beavers to me ^^
If the game is not meant to have such a large population why do it have such large map ?
I don't want to waste 75% of the map because the game is not optimized.
Why allow 8x8 maps?
Because that's how the map editor works. You could make 1024x1024 if you wanted to,
cause having a large map on the store page sells copies.
just about every game does this. i wish the industry as a whole would be forced to be more honest about late game performance. but it's a bit of a double edged sword, cause forcing good performance in late game will just lead to empty games with barely any features, so some nuance is required.
(back when 64bit was new was a funny time in this regard.)
Have to agree here, I play a large map because I want to expand over all of it. For me it’s how I like my city builder challenges. Most I’ve gotten to is 400 bevs with 200 bots, but what I found really seemed to affect my performance was water wheels. I had about 100 on my last map and it started to suffer with performance as I built the last 20 of them
