Timberborn

Why are my Foresters not chopping down trees to collect logs?
- Trees are fully grown, ready to be chopped down
- They are within the range of my foresters
- They are marked for cutting down
- I have a lot of free storage for logs
- All buildings are fully staffed

But my foresters aren't doing anything. Logs storage is only going down. No trees are being cut. What am I doing wrong?

Foresters plant trees
Lumberjacks cut them down
Tapper's shacks collect maple syrup and pine resin. If a luberjack cuts the tree down before it 'matures' enough, no syrup or resin will be collected.

That's what I've learned in my short time in game.

This is correct, on the screenshot I can’t see a lumberjack post for the bevs

Ah right. So in this game foresters only plant, not cut. That's different from the usual city building mechanic, but I guess that explains it. I'll build some lumberjacks. Thanks guys!

About this, can i have both sap tappers and chopping wood in the same place to get both resources (logs and sap)? So far i have made a seperate area only for sap tapping and one (or more) for chopping logs.

Yes. As long as you don't mark the whole lot for cutting but leave some to mature to produce sap. The same goes for chestnuts.

Ah, i was thinking botrh getting sap and getting logs, since sap timers are usually alot shorter then logs.. like 2for1 trees.

To support what has been said, best to leave production trees, like Maples, Pines, Mangroves Chestnuts to simply keep maturing their fruit/sap over and over again. Oaks are far far batter for long term logging. In very early game a few birches with some pines as pure logging trees to be replaced later with Oaks.
When do you make the change from Birch/Pine to Oak? play it by ear and get a feel for the map and difficulty level, learning the timing is part of the fun. And it can vary even with same faction on same map depending on how you play and how the Great Beaver in the sky throws the flood/bad-tide dice.

As soon as the tree grows up, it becomes a target for the lumberjacks. It must stay standing for even longer than that to start producing the other stuff. You can try doing both in the same area, but there is no guarantee any tree will mature enough to produce the other materials. And if lumberjacks do cut one down, you have to wait even longer to get the other materials (as the new tree must first mature, then go through the timer to get the other material again).

It is just better to have a section marked for lumberjacks, and a section not marked for lumberjacks that you then get your other materials from.
