I am sorry to hear that! I don't know the exact number, but it is around 2.7 food and water per beaver per day. Best to plan with a reserve of 3 per beaver per day, because sometimes the restocking process after a drought does not go as smooth as you think - as you noticed yourself.

i have 55 beavers but had about 800 food and 750 water stored.

i guess some will just have to die so the others can live

if you do nothing they all die due to low working efficiency.
you need to plan a new district and send some beavers to die there without any supply.
isnt the amount of food and water they eat and drink in the settings and can be changed? What I mean by that is you can see what the setting for game and see how much they can eat and drink. I havent looked at the setting in a long time so I could be wrong.

Some times you have to make hard choices so having to remove most of your beavers happens sometimes.

You can't really stockpile all the food and water needed to last out a drought, especially on harder difficulty settings. You're a beaver. Build a dam to collect a giant lake of water. That lake will feed water pumps and farms all year round.

Uhhh, one tile at a time. Dam tech is unlocked for free at the start, which is half hollow to let water through:

Levees are solid blocks. More tech is in the same section.

Chop trees, plant trees, build dams, manage your water. You'll get the hang of it pretty quick.

ok must have skipped over that one. i was busting up some natural blockages that let more water flow to another side

When you manage to grow as big as 55 beavers, your plan should not be to weather the droughts, but rather, to keep a large reservoir. If you weather the droughts, you need to double your farm and water gathering, which will leave you with almost no beavers left for other tasks.

But the general formula is 2 food and water per beaver per day. If you don't have extra at the end, you hit a death spiral due to low work speed.

i dammed up the river im on and now the water lasts for 6 days of drought. the settlement survived. many beavers had died however.

the city must survive

Such is the way of the beaver

Both factions hard/normal

this is a slight over estimate but it is 2.25 water per beaver per day, 3 food per beaver per day.
With full bellies and no more food or water they can last 5 days before they die.

accurate figures 2.121212.......water per day per beaver, 2.66666.....food per beaver per day. So you could round food to 2.75. I just find 3.0 easier.

is the cooked food higher quality or is it all just 1 unit = 1 unit

I believe 1 food is 1 food but you get more food per land area with cooked foods. with that being said. I can have 2 farms getting corn and I can feed something like 40 beavers(not hard numbers) the same setup can only support 20 beavers with the Kohlrabies. It seems to be much better to have cooked good over raw ones if you are looking for support a large population.
