Gatherer of crops?
Just out of curiosity, why can't the gatherer also gather crops, ie: plants planted by the farmhouse? Seems like a logical thing for them to be able to do.

Because the beavers at the farmhouse require tools, fertilizers, seeds, and other various items, while gatherers only need a small plot of land for temporary food storage, the tools needed for their activities do not overlap. Therefore, I think the farmer at the farmhouse can work part-time as a gatherer, but the gatherer cannot work part-time as a farmer.

The beavers in the farmhouse, do both. They are set by default with a higher priority to plant. You can also change this to set gathering crops to the higher priority.

Other beavers not assigned to the farm house cannot directly gather or plant crops controlled by the Farm House.
This is the way the Developers want it to work.

I use two farm houses. One set to gather, and one set to plant. Works much better this way.

If you want it different, go to the Suggestion web site and make a suggestion or upvote an existing one.

its just a game mechanic. They are two different jobs ... because the game is made up of assigning jobs and deciding what you need for your colony. Obviously a farmer can pick berries, but not here, because its a different job. And even in real life, its two different jobs... the guys that pick oranges off trees are different from the guys that grow corn -- trees don't need to be replanted very frequently, while stuff like corn does, and that requires different skills (IRL its like driving a tractor vs using a bucket truck or ladder or whatever).
