Timberborn

Terrain blocks should not be "ground only"
in real life you can put dirt on top of a building, and mega sky farms would be very cool, so why not?

Yeah I want to build hobbit holes - mega sky farms also sound good. I did put it on the suggestion list a while back but I don't know if it got any upvotes.

Roof gardens, in real life, can be beautiful havens of peace and tranquillity , even a simple terrace garden is wonderful if you are an apartment dweller. So, just being able to make roof top gardens (decorative and relaxation only) would be great. Huge sky farms, perhaps not for me, but no reason why not that I can see. These beavers do all sorts of "blue sky" activities after all.

Yes! After 3D water, overhangs, etc, I would also think the nice degrees of freedom you get with Timberborn should not stop here. Dirt on top of something solid seems legit and actually something that beavers (would) love.

Or at least have natural overhangs cound as ground or have a decorative block that looks like dirt.

I think it's fine the way it is, you could always use a mod to change things tho.

people actually agree with me yay

Yes and no...
Yes, it would be really fun to be able to build farms on multiple floors.
And no, because it somewhat undermines the purpose of small maps that add difficulty due to limited farmland.

it's lategame stuff, it's fine.

notably you could make the same argument for overhangs, but by the time you can make a lot of those you will already have solved the map.

Maybe the authors will eventually rework it into a fully 3D terrain, but I doubt it.

Consider things like the Excavator: Currently, all it has to do is check that there is no obstacle on the 25 terrain tiles under it, and if there are not any, it knows it will be able to drill all the way to the bottom of the map.

But with cavities? It would have to perform rather complex calculations to check that there isn't some overhang (natural or artificial) protruding into such cavity somewhere deeper; the game would also have to constantly check, whenever you try to place an overhang or a bridge, that you are not placing it into the vertical path of an excavator.

Gravity batteries already require that kind of collision check.

they said they were working on cave maps were theres dirt blokes on natural overhanges so mabye when they add that to the game they also add this to the game

It would be nice to have your farms available on top of your platforms, where they can get sunlight. Instead of always down in the deepest, darkest, levels of your base. I know sunlight isn't a mechanic, yet. But it should be.

i would be nice it would help on the small maps

It would certainly make it easier (on some maps) to have the aquafarm on a rooftop as well. Just make a 2-block deep aqueduct type thing, put dirt blocks on the bottom, and let the water fill over the top, and be able to plant whatever you want.

I would love to just bury a city, or dig it into a cave in a mountain side and have a second district above it. With enough overhangs and dirt you could have some seriously densely packed cities or even multiple districts with vertical separation. One on top of the mountains, on in a cave system you dug out below.

It would be nice to have an 'inverted' overhang, something with the same mechanics but you have to build it into 'ground' and they dig out the tile under it, so it's effectively tunnel building. With planning you could dig out layer by layer being sure to keep the roof entirely supported at all times. I want my cave colony!

(Side note for complexity, it would be nice to have different types of plants that need, do not need, or must be out of sunlight to grow)
