I agree however, that you should get back roughly 50% of the material.
(pun intended)
Could balance it out to keep the rare stuff
reclaim 70-90% metal
reclaim 30-75% gears
reclaim 20-50% planks
reclaim 1 wood max
If you don't have losses then after a point you can just end up with so much half the game becomes pointless.
Beavers build so fast it not like construction time is a factor.
or edit the JSON save file and add back your metal that you want.
Right now you just pick a building and insta-delete it. It seems kinda fair to me that with that mechanic you wouldn't get anything back, as you don't have to wait for available builders, wait while they tear it down, which removes them from other projects, etc.
Once (or if) they add those mechanics to the delete/destroy/tear down of structures, then I 100% agree we should get some materials back.

The game needs a cancel option where the materials are refunded.
As for deleting buildings, easy mode should get funds (maybe full or some partial 50%-75%?) normal mode should get some partial refund (maybe 25-50?). hard mode shouldn't get anything. Which sounds fair.
well, sometimes you will make dam wrong and flood your entire settlement, deleting some blocks instantly will save you, making beavers walk around to take it apart with refund will kill you.
Are you okay buddy
You can instantly demolish a building and get no resources back. However you can set it to be dismantled. The beavers will then "mine" it like they do with resources. The longer you leave them, the more resources you get back up to a maximum of 50%.
