"Timberborn" newbe confused by Gravity Battery
I paid for the Gravity Battery just to look at it. I saw no connection hub on it. Does it connect by being attached (touching a stucture that touches the energy grid in question)? How do you get the structure to attach to the power grid. I saw a post about connecting to a house (but that doesn't make sense). The house has no attachment to a power grid. Hopefully you seniors have an answer (or should I just forget that gravity batteries even exist).

The rectangular box at the base conducts power. You can place it directly next to another building or source of power, or connect it with power lines.

Tip with the batteries, I like to build a row of 3 or 4 and then use explosives to deepen the trench in front of them to gain an extra 2 - 6k hph depending on depth etc.

But yeah, just put anything that transfers power next to the base of it, including power poles if you want to be doubly sure its turning and you will see it work :), connect a windmill to generate power when no water etc

Only power generators like wheels and windmills show the power connection point. Most buildings that consume power (including batteries here since they store it) can recieve power from any side and transfer it to buildings next to or on top of them. If you select a power consuming building the ones connected to it that are capable of transferring power should turn light blue

Thank you all, I was thinking of placing it on top of 3 double platforms which I take as needing to be next to a power generating/using building. But maybe need to be higher. Appreciate all your input...

A very cool trick is to use HOUSING to transfer power vertically. Drag a power line from e.g. ground floor or 1st floor to your industries, build several houses on each other (you can pause them if you don't intend to use them and don't want to bring paths to them), and then put the gravity battery next to one of the top house's flat walls.

I love the concept, but I tried it and it didn't work for me. In the screenshot, the power axle on the bottom of the houses isn't turning.

The entrance tile isn't a full size wall. You would need to move it one tile forward (houses) or backwards (batteries)

Sorry, you lost me. What is an entrance tile and what makes a wall "full size"?
Alcator Jun 13, 2023 @ 3:56am
OK, power can be transmitted through every FULL SIZE flat wall that is touching the edges of the 'game cubicle/tile'.
The lodges you placed have a tiny 'balcony'/'terrace' in their front, which means the walls of that terrace are not FULL SIZE flat walls, and thus cannot transfer power.
You could connect the grav. batteries to the "rear" half of the lodges.

Ok, I turned the houses and that works. Thanks.

Another thing you can do is build a huge platform as high up as you can. I think the highest I ever got batteries was 20k energy each. It was a bit ridonkulous, but it worked.

Here's a screenshot of a larger setup for your info. This is the kind of setup that potato has mentioned above.

There is a spiral of power wheels behind these towers that connect into the windmills, and then down in the main city.

Hope this helps.
