What is your preferred method of farming logs?
I know that Maples give the best "bang for your buck" in terms of their time, but I was kind of curious how some other folks set up their log farming setups.

When I have my colony up to a size where I need to more "industrialise" my log farming, I would figure out an area to do it where I could plant a LOT of trees. The size of the farm has varied depending on the map I am using and I would split it up between the four tree types so I could almost always have trees that would be ready to be cut down. I have been thinking lately that this method isn't that great anymore and have been considering going with straight pine/maple trees in my log farms. Thought?

I just go all maple as soon as possible
Yeah I usually go maple as soon as I can. My first tree farm is always maple unless I need a quick fix of wood
I don't play min/maxing efficiency, so I have a variety of tree farms across my maps and districts. Use whatever works for you in your specific setups.
I usually start with large pine patches for a quicker turn around on wood then have a variety when I'm more established.

I don't think what trees you use matter too much later on unless you're using them for their secondary resources as well. I'd probably use a mixture of pine and maple for quick turn-around and long term efficiency.
It really depends, different type of trees are needed from different type of products. generally the mainstay should be maple for log reserve stock up. with birch and pine for emergency buffer. leaving chestnut particularly in an odd spot.

For me its more the logging patterns I am more interested in reducing microing on them or let grow wild on the further unreachable areas.

Resulting certain way of planting and chopping allotments to allow forester free setup up which are slower than normal logging but can permanently free up a forester beaver.

Something like theses.

I found myself having in most maps the following strategy: At the beginning, I have a ratio 90/10 pines/maples which changes slowly over time to 20/80 pines/maples. Also, it's on high priority to find a second place to farm trees in a larger scale than the start region. In that area, I have dedicated areas for chestnuts, syrup and pine resin.
I rush a plantation of maples as one of the first things I do in the game after setting up a carrot farm. I push food and population growth to set up neighboring districts as soon as possible where I again rush food and tree growth.

I think starting with something other than maples while you wait for your maple farm to get up and running is probably the best way. But yea just go to maples.
in early game i plant maple closest to the wood cutter then a row of pine then birch this way they always cut down the best tree first and still got a trickle of logs in, after my bevers are good with food and water i plant all trees in randomness couz i like the look
3/4 pine to 1/4 maple early on, once food and water are stable I switch all the pine to maple
