lining ground with levee help retain water?
if i was to sorta make a large surface along a hole in the ground or the river bed with levee's would the water last longer than if it was on the dirt?

I would assume if this is a thing, the amount of grass you can see would be less of a reach?

Not as of right now, the water evaporates at a fixed rate, so make the rivers deeper or build upwards to increase the water level and therefore retain water for longer.

does the rate of water consumption get changed based on how many trees / crops the pool is feeding?
I would assume the water pumps work this way for sure, but not certain if crops take extra?

at this time the only water consumption is evaporation, from the top tiles of water, at 0.045 tile depth per day.

So, are you saying that water collected by beavers does not affect the amount of water being held in bodies of water, even during drought?

No, actively pumping water will lower water levels, evaporation is the only passive water consumption.
