Water Needs Better Balancing
This may just be a demo, but no matter how many water barrels I build I cant seem to keep enough water for my beavers. In one game I had only 20 beavers and 22 barrels holding water and it ran out on 1/4 through the dry season. I love this game but I spend more time trying to get water more than anything else.

Hi Runesnow,

The point of the game is to dam up the riverway so that it doesn't drain during the dry season. When you do this, the water stays (or evaporates very slowly) and you won't lose your water and grass. You should make this a priority before the first dry season.

But how does water running out in reservoirs work? Is it simply timed or does it calculate volume and evaporation\consumption? I survived the second dry season, but my reservoir run dry just before the end, good I had enough barrels in backup.

If it's possible for the water to drain into the river exit, it will. There's no evaporation. Consumption effects water levels. If water is left in an irrigation canal and cut off from the river exit, it will stay in the canal and keep the ground fertile for as long as it isn't being consumed. Crops and trees do not consume water. So it's a very bad idea to use irrigation towers if you can afford explosives.

Pretty sure they do.
Last run in Canyon on 2nd dry season, I stopped all water pumps with water left in the river. At about 3/4 into the season the river dried up. The exit blocked, pumps offline.
Sure, it lasted a long time, but it was consumed.

How was your river exit blocked? My irrigation channels actually separate themselves from the river entirely when the dry season starts. They don't have the possibility of going back to the river at all, and they don't dry up. They are also 3 layers deep, so that might mean something. After all, the pool doesn't dry up entirely on the large map.

This was from a failed attempt (population too high), but its same design:

Blocked down the river to keep farm and trees alive. In 2nd attempt the water pumps were turned off around 1/4 season in.

How do you control your population? Mine seem to keep breeding and I end up with like 50 of them and they drink all the water.

You can slow down by removing campfires and/or houses.
If you need to reduce the population, you can close your farm and wait until enough have starved to death.

Don't build too many houses > no more place for children.
let them work 18h a day so they don't have enough time fore social activities (keeps fertility low.
