petition to add combat
Lets start this off by saying- brilliant sandbox and I've pumped too many hours already.

But what do you after your beavers are set up?

Now- lets talk combat.

My 2 cents would be after say 5-10 seasons you now (hopefully) have yourself a thriving colony complete with supply chains, now its time to raise an army.

I think the game can be broken up into stages;
stage 1: the sandbox (cycles 1-5)
stage 2: preparation (cycles 5-7)
stage 3: raising your army (cycles 7-10)
stage 4: Attack/Defend!

I think it'd be cool, 5 seasons in to be approached by something like "the weasels" who ask you about forming an empire and taking over an opponent (which you can be obviously turned down) and then be paired with someone else who said yes. These custom maps would be half "missing" and attached to another random player who also agrees. You'd still have to maintain your beavers, so attacking your opponent's food/water/metal supplies could cripple their capital so securing checkpoints would be the most important aspect of the game. Additionally- the loot they left and their districts are absorbed into your empire and thus it expands.

I recon you could have a general beaver- and units which have to train (in their archery range for example) to be completely effective. I think the general should be like a marker, and the army just automatically forms around him (which you can control its basic appearance) You'd also have to keep your army supplied on their campaign- so supply wagons (and their chains) would be their obvious weakness.

I think this has a potential to be a crazy fun mod that could combine age of empires with simcity- imagine an epic battle that took days of effort to put together. It would have a learning curve, but I think it'd be worth it.

I second the motion for any combat theme to be optional. Maybe add it as a fourth difficulty or a checkbox to toggle for all difficulties, and obviously include it as a configurable in custom games. Let us who prefer a laid back experience be able to continue to have such.

Only if it was optional. The reason I don't play a lot of games like Age of Empires and prefer games like Caesar and Pharaoh was because combat in those games was optional and not forced on those of us who prefer the city management approach

Only if it's supplied by the mod community and not a single penny of the devs time or money. I paid for a city builder, as advertised. Development takes time and money if it's not being spend on furthering the city builder aspect then...

I am really worried that if they will add combat now, without building the game from the start with that in mind, that we will end up with neither a good city builder nor a good strategical game.

this game has so much potential without combat, i would prefer they focus on non combat stuff for the moment. They can add a lot more buildings and challenges to the game that have nothing to do with combat.
They could make buildings damageable, make water more threatening, add in weather effects etc etc.

Not all games need combat to be entertaining, this is one of them

We already fight the drought, we don't need anything else thank you and goodbye.

As a mod sure, but not as a part of the game.

no thanks. I don't want combat. i do agree though, if someone wants to mod it, then it's fine with me, because i don't have to add it.

No thanks. As said above, a mod sounds fine but not part of the actually game.

No

NO thanks, want no part of combat and if it is put into the game it must be as a option.

There's always someone who wants warfare in a peaceful city building game when there are endless war games already to sate that bloodlust. Keep them out of games like this please.

Another day another combat thread. Why do people purchase games that are advertised as a city builder, and then demand the game be changed and have combat? Not every game needs combat.

No the developers need to build the best city builder game they can. There are plenty of combat games on the market, leave the city builders alone.

no thanks.
the game seems to be missing A LOT of content; I mean, i'd rather they add more buildings, aqueducts, and maybe rail cart systems to move resources.
I wanna see more city building content; its a city builder.

if the modding community wanna add stuff like that on their dime, they're very welcome. Id play it and even support it with a donation maybe if its really good.

To be fair I don't think they are demanding it, just expressing their desire for it.

Not full scale war or army building, better suited for Starcraft. I like some conflict and more apocalyptic themes considering it’s post human collapse and now beavers must attempt to survive.
