Objective/End Game
Hey Everyone,

Really liking the potential this game has so far. Needs a lot of balancing work and addition of content, but going good so far.

What i was wondering was if the devs have mentioned anything about an end game goal or objective. Usually colony sim games like this keep my attention a lot better when there's an objective. I have a lot more play time in rimworld and factorio then i do city skylines or prison architect.

Maybe they could put a random event in the ruins that reveals an ancient human artifact, maybe you have to use an ungodly amount of science to decipher/unlock the secrets of the artifact. Once unlocked the player gets a success pop-up for securing the future of the [beaver faction] and gets an option to keep playing.

Maybe an end timer for a pending flood would be cool. Or maybe for the folktails, they have to build a giant ship/fleet of ships to escape the nearby iron tooth's pollution clouds. And as an iron tooth you have to build some kind of giant foundry or reproduction pod.

Maybe your tribe of beavers has an ancient tablet describing beavertopia, and you have to work on various things throughout the game like star reading, archaeology e.t.c. to find beavertopia. Maybe if your an iron tooth your objective is the same but your motives are not.

Or maybe just rip a page from everyone elses book and have the beavers build a wooden rocketship.

Curious what everyones thoughts are about this and if they've heard/seen anything from the devs on it.

I'd be down for this! Devs could make a sequel later on Beaver Star Galactica

Could be a bunch of achievements to collect as well, rather then one endgame condition.

If that were endgame i wouldn't play - takes the fun out of it and not relaxing at all.

i think beavers only have one goal and that is to drown the whole world.

tho i agree, games like this need something so that it wont just end up like a ton of other games where u play until you win once (or get a sucsessful colony) and thats it, nothing more, nothing new. this har 2 factions i guess u can win 2.

like i found rise to ruins really cool, but after 2-3 games i learned how to win and never played again

They should take a page from old Sierra city builders, or from 2k's civ city Rome, and implement goals/win conditions for each map. maybe make a progressive story from one map to the other?

Now that is an idea that may work

The problem with 'win' conditions is that life never ends. Whatever finish line you draw it'll be arbitrarily drawn and could easily be earlier or later with no better reasoning.

That said, I think it pays to look at the themes of the game.

* There's a theme of beavers becoming sentient and the controlling force of earth. Perhaps some sort of domination win condition? Hard to do that without multiplayer or NPC's.
* There's a theme of technological improvement. So have the creation of electricity be a win condition? Or maybe a rudimentary computer?
* There's a theme of discovering old human ruins. Maybe there's some secret to improving beaver life buried in the ruins?
* There's a theme of surviving on an unstable Earth. Maybe we can find a way to halt the droughts and repair Earth? Or at least mount an unbreakable defence against the weather?

END GAME is no such thing in this type of game. end game is when you get fedup

I love the idea of archaeology being done in the ruins; which little by little reveals what happened to the humans.

Exactly. Not every game NEEDS an "endgame."

This is a city builder game, no end game, keep expanding until your computer dies.

Exactly. Can you imagine a conversation like, "Gee, I wish Mass Effect didn't have a plot. I just want to roam the galaxy in my ship." Different games have different purposes. And "end goal" is not one of the purposes of a game like this, just like "sandbox" is not one of the purposes of Mass Effect.
I think this game is in need of achievements. It's a really neat way of adding an end goal, reaching a 100% in a game like Cities Skylines or Planet Coaster takes a lot of time, but because of that players that manage to do so feel accomplised. It's a nice compromise.

A day ago I was thinking they could add an "explorer's hut" that you build with access to edge of map. Where beavers are sent on expeditions. Similar to frostpunk, they will return with either knowledge rewards or artifacts to collect in a building you build (human museum) eventually you get artifacts that need deciphering to unlock certain technologies. Which consumes science.

Lets say deep mine is locked behind it,

special power technologies,

advanced means of aquiring water etc...

In the end you have to prepare for an infinite drought. Where you need to have ensured an artificial supply of water with help of human knowledge and technologies you discover or similar. Or maybe final goal is to have a certain % of the map be turned green. Can be many things.,

Just started playing and I was a little curious about this.
I finished the "tutorial" build as far as the tips go. So do I just keep building until I get tired of that map and then move to the next which I play until I get tired and so on?

And I assume it keeps track of my happiness average and lets me know when I can play Iron Teeth. Is there a way I can check my average to see where I'm at for the whole game?
