Valve Index Headset

Valve Index Headset

can someone please leak an estimate on index 2?
1. If I buy anything sooner I won't buy an index 2
2. I want a newer version of the knuckles so bad

An estimate on something that doesn't exist yet?

Buy a vive pro 2 and a pair of knuckles. It's better than whatever the index 2 is going to be, especially if the leaks and speculation of it just being a steamdeck are true.

Current speculation and leaks is that the "deckard" is going to be an inside out, standalone, 4k screens (but Fixed foviated) headset.

The Vive pro 2 is lighthouse (better), PCVR (better), 2.5k screens headset. Resolution is lower but not FFR so better strictly speaking.

You could also get a pimax 8k which actually has 4k screens, though as I understand it the headset doesn't actually ever render 4k per eye, it upscales 1440p per eye to 8k so there's some limits to visual quality.

ooof I really hope those leaks are not true.
I want a lighthouse PCVR-only headset and controllers.
Don't want to unncesarily pay for a chipset for mobile I'm not gonna use. It's not like it's gonna make MSFS VR or skyrim VR an better.

The main reason I don't wanna buy new set is because I'm waiting for whatever knuckles 2 will be... because I had really bad experience with knuckles 1 breaking multiple times.

There is a problem.
a) No stock for Steam controllers only
b) bases for trackimg are better for Index (2.0) then in the set for HTC (1.0)?

I have read several times, that for good tracking player should choose 3-4 tracking bases...

There is no alternation for controllers, HTCs looks terrible, simple...

P. S. : I am waiting on the end of the march, but it sethat VIVE2 and Index will rule PCVR this year again...

the tracking is BS. I had perfect tracking with 2 bases.
I'm going to wait for index 2 for sure, unless they confirm it's not PCVR-only (I don't want standalone), or someone releases a knuckles competetor

You have to wait for restock or just buy second hand regarding the controllers. Regarding the lighthouses you can buy both 1.0 and 2.0 from vive and different headset bundles come with different stations. There's no real difference in tracking quality between the two though it's just different approaches to tracking.

Also you only need 1 base station to track sitting games and 2 for full tracking in roomscale. The reason people suggest more is that you can cover blindspots and possibly get marginally improved tracking quality.

They've said that the steam deck is a stepping stone for the new headset (or words to that effect). That can't possibly be the case without the headset being standalone.

why? maybe the headset uses the hardware in the deck to run, like a computer, which makes it like a PCVR thing (needed external hardware)

The steamdeck is a handheld computer. There's three elements to it. The controls, which are not abnormal, the screen which is not abnormal (and is too low quality for VR), and the internal computer which is the only abnormal part of it.

Because the computing hardware is the only part of it that matters it means that is what they're going to further develop for the next headset. And the only reason you could need an integral computer and OS and such is for a standalone headset.

And if you're suggesting maybe the headset will plug in to the steamdeck, no. The steamdeck is very low performance and won't run VR games even with FFR. It has trouble keeping 60fps on its own screen which is only 1280x800 (90's CRT resolutions basically). Basically the steamdeck has inferior performance to a $400 desktop (which kind of makes sense considering the price). And you won't get good performance in VR out of a $400 desktop. IE a 3.5ghz max boost CPU, a custom GPU that's roughly equivalent to a midrange gpu from 3-4 generations ago, etc.

Assuming they don't beef the hardware up, which there's no headroom to due to heat, it looks like the deckard is going to go the quest model with low graphical fidelity games.

Markets are amimg for standalone AR... witch is unfortunate. I wish i see pc vr for hight quality gaming for titles like Alyx.

Personality i am wanting for the comming of HyperX from Samsung, if it change something. Insomnia vr1 is in mists. For the year 2023 it could really be only the question between Vive 2 pro vs Index.

Well, I'm still going to hope I'll be able to purchase a PCVR-only index 2, because otherwise valve won't get my money. oof.

I would hope for index 2 to be mostly the same but with higher resolution, oled hdr and better optic. Love the "headphone" not touching you. FOV is good, not pimax fov but still good.
