I don't get why they have controller and hmd together in stock but option for just hmd or just controllers is out of stock ??? It doesn't even make sense to me ..
I have the money, please just let me buy the thing and just send it out when you have it.
I know it has been this way continually since 2019 though.
If you already have base stations and some controllers you might want to look up Pimax or the Vive Pro 2 rather than the index. These headsets are better than the index in terms of specs and are also lighthouse and so work on the same ecosystem.
They don't care about money when it comes to their hardware. All of their hardware products are vanity projects from higher ups in the company (according to former employees, but also IIRC Gabe outright said this about the index).
They make huge amounts of money with massive profit margins through steam since there's almost no running costs compared to the revenue they get.
Even then that doesn't explain it, because how does a company as rich as Valve run out of cardboard?
Only explanation is they're just straight up not selling it.
They've been "short stocked" for the entire time they've been selling indexes. If it was something they wanted to fix, they have had more than enough opportunity by now. It's artificial scarcity to drive up demand. If you know you can get a product at any time you have less of a panicked urge to buy it than someone who wants something that is not always in stock. Additionally if you know you're always able to get something you are more likely to consider something else as you have all the time in the world to make up your mind as to which is better, meanwhile if the initial thing isn't always in stock you have a sense of resentment and a fear of missing out that counter intuitively causes you to be less likely to consider an alternative.
It could release tomorrow, or never.
I have the money, you have the headsets in the kits. Just let me put in an order, and produce according to the orders.
I wanna play VR again ;-;
Might be cheeky, but have you asked steam if you can buy a full kit and then return and refund every part of it except the headset?
Probably won't let you, but no harm in asking.
Idk, I bought a Vive Pro 2, the thing was like 120* F on my forehead, and never 'just worked'. It was constantly jittery, and the performance was NOT as expected. I ended up returning it, from what I can tell online this was probably due to a defect, and is a very common occurrence.
I don't have enough space to use it without risk of damaging it (I stopped using it after I hit the wall a couple of times with the controller), but the Valve Index indeed DID just work. Plugged it in, and it works. No weird configuration stuff, no jittery bs, it just plugs in, turns on, works.
I think the visuals on the Vive Pro 2 were better, but given that it was impossible to see them due to the hardware defects (moving your head would cause constant jittering and what was almost like rubber banding), I would prefer to have something that works. Keep in mind that I have a 3090 and i12900k, which were among the best available hardware at the time when I bought the Vive Pro 2 and the Valve Index.
