Valve Index Headset

Valve Index Headset

Question about Index display port, and whether i can run it or not.
So i have an alienware 17 R5 laptop, I know i can run the index, however my biggest concern is the Display Port, at the back of my laptop I only have an HDMI & Mini-Display Port that's it, I also heard the MDP adapter don't work or it does for a few people.

Needing someone to clarify for me, and yeah i got a gaming laptop because I had to travel.

Failing to be able to use the index, what would be the next headset you suggest

well, My friend has an alienware laptop and his oculus rift s was not working at all even with the d mini display port that came with it. We installed Nvidia updated drivers from nvidia and not from dell/alienware website and it worked flawlessly.

if you get an index over the oculus rift s, because of the comfort and quality which I agree with, get a mini display port adaptor of high quality and you should be fine. Index does not provide a mini display port to display port

sorry, this is not a quality one but it does work. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HNF0KF0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_zqngDbCVCMQK8

Do you know the model and gpu of your friends alienware laptop?, I always go to nvidia for my GPU updates anyways.

I've been on the waiting list for 5 weeks, and thought i'd dig deeper about the display thing, i mainly want the index for the quality, sound, knuckles and obviously flawless tracking, i also heard it has good ventilation so thats a major upside.

If the adapter works for me then it'd be a major relief

Been looking at MDP to DP, Would this work better than the other?

A min-dp has the exact same electrical connections as a full sized display port. Anyone that is having issues with a min-dp is because of user error.

As long as you have a decent mini-dp adapter it will work fine.
