Valve Index Headset

Valve Index Headset

Does the index need a linkbox?
I was setting up my old vive to do some VR but cant find the linkbox. Was wondering if this needs the linkbox to function properly.

Would you mind explaining what a link box is?

But the way the index works is you have your base stations - Typically mounted on walls - They only need to be plugged into a wall outlet for power - No wiring to PC necessary

Then there's the index headset - This has a power adapter + display adapter + USB Adapter. One cable plugs into a power supply and two into the computer.

From that point on it's all just setting up the software on your computer once everything is plugged in.

There will be another set of cables which is USB C to USB but that's purely for charging the controllers. I would personally recommend getting a USB charging station so you don't need to plug directly into the PC because it will detect hardware each time and it gets annoying and also prevents the controllers from fully shutting off while charging. For this cable you can just get a phone charging cable for a smart phone and use that.

It does not rely on a link box no, it does come with a cable that terminates in an adapter that splits into three, USB, power and Displayport, so effectively that part of the cable has replaced the box that came with the Vive.

no, you don't need it but sometimes it helps. when you get the index, pair the v1 wands, and v1 base stations via bluetooth via steamVR bluetooth app.
