Valve Index VR-Headset

Valve Index VR-Headset

VR and glasses
I've never used VR and am curious how it works for people who need glasses.

My Glasses do not fit. I ended up getting contact lenses. They work great. I used glasses on Oculus and I felt something pressing against my side face. Contact lenses are a lot better, or you can get the custom lenses for the Index if you are the only person who uses the Headset.
they say vive is better for glasses users. You just need to back the lenses of your face a bit with the adjustment knob.
get contacts....you'll thank me later....
Nah. I can't touch my eyeball. Its a thing for me.
I have been thinking about lasik lately, though I don't mind glasses and I'm definitely not doing it for something so trivial. Just don't like how they collect sweat and slide off at work.

But that ain't whats on my mind. I'm nearsighted, so my honest question is if I can use these with glasses or remove them without it being blurry, like I've said I've never used VR.
you can get lenses here https://widmovr.com/product/valve-index-prescription-lens-adapters/ with your prescription, just ordered mine yesterday. I've heard good things about them, but if you want I can update you when I get mine and have a chance to review them a tiny bit.
but, even without my glasses/contacts, it's not to bad for me personally.

i had prescription inserts for my rift, but it was kind of a pain in the butt since i'd have to pull the headset off to interact with the real world (and suddenly without glasses). i figured i would give the index a shot without adapters to start. it seems like there's a bit more space inside the index so it's been easier with the index to keep using my glasses, but i'm undecided if i'll do that long term or not. (and i haven't played around enough with the front facing cameras to determine if that's a viable option.)

(oh, also... the inserts i had with the rift were always getting loose/dirty. another reason i'm hoping to just stick with my glasses)
The problem with glasses is the added weight of the headset will eventually cause you discomfort. For me, my glasses on the Oculus Rift over time would slowly cause the pads of my glasses to push into my nose and eventually hurt. Taking the headset off and glasses would show two red imprints where my glasses were. I think you will get this issue regardless of headset, unless they make one that is significantly lighter. I also think you will probably get this issue with all glasses types, because they have to rest on your face in some way.

I decided to go for contact lenses at first, which worked fine, but my eyes weren't great with contact lenses and eventually they would dry out and fatigue me during night times, which is when I would game a lot. In terms of the headset itself though these were fine.

Eventually I got the lens inserts, which were the best solution in my opinion and cheaper than having to pay for monthly contacts. The downside is lens inserts produce extra glare, and if you get a blue light protected lens (healthier for your eyes, more expensive), you will see a slight blue glare over some light sources in darkened environments. I think the glare is worth the extra protection, but that's something to consider that you're trading some visual quality for protecting your eyes. Additionally you will have to clean these lenses as well as the actual Index's lenses, so potentially more cleaning effort. These were with the Oculus Rift and I assume it would be the same experience for the Valve Index.

I too have considered laser eye surgery for the ultimate fix, but I'm not going to do it until next year. In my opinion the best alternative right now are lens inserts, or if you've got more money to blow over a longer period of time contact lenses. I think glasses limit the amount of time you can play comfortably in VR, and additionally with the Valve Index you will get less FOV because of the glasses.
For me personaly the Index is more comfortable with glasses then the Vive(Standard Strap)
Thanks for all the feedback!

Basically what I'm walking away with is "expect discomfort and get lens inserts"
I received today the Valve Index and I don't see far objects I am not english spokesperson so I don't know how it is named but in Spanish is MIOPIA so I thought well the VR lenses are near my eyes i wont have problems to see... WELL YES i dont know why but i cant see ♥♥♥♥ so i have to put my GLASSES on while playing VR and is a bit uncomfortable and i can not get contact lenses because my eyes get red so easily... ♥♥♥♥♥♥
I wear glasses as I'm short-sighted (can't see distance) and I never wear glasses with my VR headset. Doesn't seem to be a problem. Glasses and VR are quite an unpleasant combination.
I noticed myself as well after playing for a few days on the index far away objects are kind of blurry but close up things (like in pavlov when looking at the gun) are clear, but targets and enemies at a certain range are blurry,

I decided to order some lens inserts to my prescription from vr optician, not sure when I will get them, just ordered a couple days ago (with the c19, not sure if there could be more delays?).

I did kind of read when I was doing research (got conflicted reports myself rather you needed lenses/glasses for vr, wish I new more would have ordered the lenses sooner) and I think i've read where depending on how bad your near-sightedness is will determine if you need glasses in vr and I think they said if you can see fine like 2ms ahead of your then you would be fine without glasses but if you can't then you need glasses or those lense inserts.

So for now until I get those lense inserts I am going to just go blind (not going to put my glasses on since heard horror stories of your index lenses being scratched and I don't want to scratch my 500-600$ headset, could care less on my glasses).

So maybe for OP you can look at those VR optician lenses which I heard good things about, but I can't really try them till whenever they ship them out - I've read it can take like 1 week to process lenses and then 1-6 weeks for shipping (going thru customs) and with the pandemic who knows might be even longer.

So in three day I will probably have to play HLA blind/blurry.
