My solution: I unmuted it in VR. I guess somehow I was messing with my headphone volume and somehow muted my mic. Even if you mute your mic just in the SteamVr client, it perma-mutes it across your entire computer. I really hope that helps because it's what I had to do.
Totally helped. For future derps (like me) who also forgot where the mute function is (or that it exists): Steam menu in VR -> universal volume icon -> should show a slider for the microphone too.
Sorry to necro, but ive been having the same problem and I think the same thing happened to me. However, for the life of me I cant find any microphone volume sliders in steam VR (I believe I set my microphone volume to 0% in steamvr instead of muting self). What did you do to unmute yourself in steam vr?
If I recall, what I did was open steamVR in headset with the button on the index controller, and it should have been a button or slider within the hotbar at the bottom of the menu. It might be accessible through the speaker icon to adjust.
Moved to a new house that didn't have enough room so it's been a minute since I've gotten to play with my index so hopefully nothing has changed 😂
Tried everything, like re-installing the drivers, changing USB-Ports, Hard-Resetting the Headset via the Bootloader, Updating the GPU drivers (Audio Playback works via the DisplayPort via the GPU).. Nothing helped.
What fixed it for me:
- Start SteamVR
- Three Lines Menu -> Developer -> Developer Settings
- Click on "Disable Power Management"
- Click on "Restart headset"
Seems like USB Power management breaks the transmission between the mic and the PC.
I have an Bixby Chipset (x570) based mainboard, maybe it´s an issue with the USB-Controller implementation?!
