Valve Index Headset

Dont buy an index
Your cord is only going to break, you RMA it 5 times within a year because the cable breaks super easily, and then your warranty ends and you have to spend $130 every 3 months on a new cable.

Mines is hung on one loop from ceiling at edge of playspace. It's the same one since I bought it when it came out.

Still got the same cable from launch bro.
How about: Not actually ruining it? Treating it with respect? Dang... wise words.

Yes, I also am still using the same cable. And I've ran over it with my computer chair and stepped on it many times. Lol.

I should probably stop it and get a pulley system set up like some of you mentioned...

I use my index every day and the cable breaks naturally on it own. I dont do anything to ruin it except using the headset very often. My vive has never had an issue with the cable, only the index and its a repeating issue every time i get a new one

I had this set up at one point and it only breaks the wire faster than just leaving it to dangle behind you

I have a pulley system as well and as long as you keep an eye on your rotations and don't stretch your cord, it will be fine.
If you've had 5 RMA's because of a ruined cord, dude, the cord is not the problem.

Had my Index for like 18 months and never had ANY issues. Maybe treat it like it costs $1000?

I think it's a quality control issue...but I never really understood it...I replaced my cable many times, then one day (out of warranty), I somehow got the right matchup of umbilical & trident, now it lasts forever (/shrug).

tbh it may seem like an exaggeration but OP is right to an extent. I have so many problems with mine once my warranty ends I know I'm ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and I take care of mine. I've had to RMA each controller once, the headset because the lens melted and the replacement (With cable) for the headset didn't work because the cable was damaged already when I got it. Currently in the process of attempting to RMA my right controller again and will probably need to buy a new left controller next October when warranty ends because of how fragile the kit is.

Support is great but support is pretty much the only thing keeping me from telling people to just buy a Vive.

I really don't know dude. They just twist the cable all the time probably, or use the disconnect.

The one thing I find sketchy about the Valve Index though is that there aren't Steam reviews for it like any other product you're buying on Steam... and that makes me worry a bit.

I'd like to see some data (from buyer reviews) about what % of people have serious problems with it or bad experiences.

Then again, maybe I shouldn't even trust Valve to host such reviews on their platform without censorship to begin with..

It's just the way the page was setup, it's a style and they failed to include the button for reviews. It's not censorship, as it never had them in the first place.
Their other hardware, such as the Steam Controller, and Steam Link, have review pages.

Had the same cable since I bought it two years ago - I had the cable in my Vive cosmos go too $140 new! so I dont think its just Index.
