How to Extend Cables?
I'm thinking about extending the range that my Index can reach from my computer. Do I just need any displayport and usb 3.0 extender? If not, what all do I need and will the extension impact the signal?

yes. and yes. i would link things, but search google for, valve index extension cable
you will find a some things on reddit, and the forums here.
just keep in mind you are driving 2 monitors at 144hz, some cables might perform under 144hz
but its a lot of bandwidth. its not 3d vision where you cut the refresh in half as far as i know, where a dual link dvi will work, its 2 displays both running 144hz.

the cables that work will likely have to be active, which means they provide power from the 100 watt power rail on display port standard, that is if valve even followed the standard.
some people have luck with cables some dont.
i would also be interested to see if anyone has cables they say work and others verify. you're probably looking at about 50-100 dollars depending on length.

id say email valve and demand they make a wireless adapter instead. a long cord is nice but if you turn in real life instead of using the right analog you wind up tripping on the cord.

you'll have to wait a while. like end of next year maybe the first quarter of 2021.

check this out, someone opened one up an index.
on the image listed as main cable port and 3.5mm audio pcb removed, you can see the jack to plug into the cable shown in the main cable image.
which looks like, and i hate to say but i've nothing to compare it to since mini displayport is square, aka thunderbolt 2, but it looks like mini hdmi, the size, but in displayport fashion.
if that cable can be found and be of high quality maybe it can plug straight into the headset, and not suffer signal loss being transfered to 3-4 connections.
it would be one of the last things put on during assembly so i doubt it'd be inaccessable, this also makes me feel a relief when i need to unplug it from the quick disconnect to de-kink the cable.
because i've been unpluging after the whip/breakout into usb3, DP and DC power.
relief from knowing connections dont maintain good contact forever, and has a limited amount of plug ins due to wear.

My mainquestion (and I can not find ANY solution, still after browsing the web inlcuded ebay and retailers online stores) is HOW and with which cable have people extended their POWER CABLE / CORD? The power supply cable is way to short. Issue here at hand: I do not want to a power socet under the ceiling just to have the power there, looks ugly and I still want to have my marriage going on^^

I am almost close to cutting the power cord and solder an extension cable in the middle of it. I can not find ANY adapter or power extensions with the strange Valve Index power jack (3,5mm x 1,1mm).

I am happy about any help.
