Valve Index Headset

Can the I use the headset while seated with no lighthouse or controllers?
So basically I only want the headset for sim games like DCS, so room scale is completely useless for me, as is the need for the controllers. Knowing that, is it possible to use the headset alone? Or better yet, what is the minimal amount of hardware needed to run the setup I am looking to get based on the games I listed?

The only VR headset I owned was the Rift 1st gen, and god was it fuzzy in games. Hoping the Index will solve my problem.

get only one lighthouse at least and callibrate to small room. also, use xbox one controller, disable steam home beta so you can use the xbox one controller.

hold left button next to center to open vr dashboard, right button switches to the lower portion of the vr dashboard but is tricky.

good luck.

I play seated sometimes in my Index. It's significantly clearer than the Vive, FYI. I play seated with ONE lighthouse. (can't have zero)

IF you want to save some cash, go buy a used HTC Vive lighthouse off ebay. It's what I did. I confirmed with Steam Support there is NO loss in function or performance UNLESS you have such a strange or huge room that 2 can't cover it. (such as 15 foot x 15 foot, or something)

I'd advise going whole hog and getting the full kit even if you only intend to play DCS or such. Interacting with the cockpit via the VR controllers is much more enjoyable than mouse or keyboard.

You don't need the $1000 kit to do that. You'd be fine with the $750 kit and a single Vive base station.
