Valve Index Headset

Valve Index Headset

Index blurry when something is up close
Is it normal for things to be blurry when up close? Everything is pretty crisp at a distance. I've tried adjusting the lens distance and ipd to no avail. Like when in Aperture Hand Labs, the hands look blurry. Same when in a steam environment. When in SteamVR I can't even make out the "valve Index" part on the controllers unless it's right up to the headset or at arm's length. This is my first time with VR some I'm wondering if this is normal or not. I didn't seem to notice it at first so I'm wondering if I've done something or if I wasn't paying that much attention. Thoughts?

Also, I'm running on a 2080 Ti. I've tried auto resolution and 150% (what it defaults to) 90 hz, 120, hz, and 144 hz refresh rates. Haven't tried 80 yet but everything looked the same no matter the setting this far.

Remove the plastic protector on lenses, adj to your ipd. It's all about adjusting to get the sweet spot. Should not take long.

Yeah, no plastic covers. I adjusted ipd. I adjusted the lens distance. I messed with it for about an hour but still everything up close was very blurry. Everywhere else it looked great but anything at arm's length super blurry.

Might be the graphics settings and stuff with your pc and not the index?
I just lookd a review , a guy was talking about how great the quality of image of those especially of stuff up close

Have you tested to make sure it's not a graphical thing? Are you able to check the mirror and see if the issue is present there? The game you are playing may not be focusing correctly on near items.

I've the same problem, but had it also with the vive pro for example in hot dogs horseshoes and hand grenades I can't use the iron sights because they are way to blurry. Everything gets blurrier the closer it gets

I had to get my headset replaced because of a few issues. Both of mine exhibit this behavior. It looks terrible. You can see this mostly in the menu and looking at the buttons on the controllers. If you focus your eyes past the controller face, the buttons appear clear as day.

There has to be some kind of software issue with the correction on things close up. I don't understand how this isn't being reported more.

Have you found a solution to this?
I’m having the exact same problem with the same gpu.

running 2080ti with 220% supersampling enabled. everything is sharp. I use to use 500% minus 1% of the high end games causing issues so i dropped it to 220% and it runs all my games fine.

I have an Rtx 2080Ti and a i9 9900k, and still I see some of my games struggling with 150%. how is this possible? there might be some wrong setting.
Alternatively it could just be that my games are on an hdd... Any tips --ranXerox--?

drivers maybe? maybe its driver optimization?
i have the 2080ti ventus which is the cheapest one, but it runs faster than reference clock speeds. that i doubt would affect anything but a little bit, getting my kit soon™, its in the mail finally

probably because I am running a amd rizen 3700 on a asrock X570 Steel Legend WiFi ax and 32gb ddr4 3600 ram. evga 2080ti xc ultra. on a valve index. all solid state drivers. minus my game drive. Game drive is mechanical.

yes, I can run 500% supersampling on an index no problems. The ones that i do struggle with is and set supersampling to 220% including oculus revive games are

set to 220% supersampling
stormland
lone echo
asgards wrath
project cars 2
obduction
etc.
I can run these at 500% but you start to notice issues. So i keep the high end games no less than 220%

one last thing, maybee your point of view of what you call "sharp and good" might be different than my "good enough" quality settings.

right, i noticed this too with my hands in the steam vr room. i can see the pixels and they are "in focus" i've yet to find any settings for super sampling, but when the hands ar close they are blurred.
im used to this kind of thing with 3d vision when games would blur things because you werent focused on them, but with 3d vision that was natural so there were mods to remove the blur.
anyways thought i'd update.

mine has been blurey and when i go to steam home in vr it lags alot
hudsonpickels Dec 30, 2020 @ 1:40pm
