Can a displayport extension work on the Valve Index?
I've tested 2 different display port extension cables now and I get random pixel flickering on both. Has anyone found a successful extension? I only need about 6 more feet.

So far it is working at 144hz with no issues.

Ok thanks for the correction.

I bought MANY different varieties and returned all but one DP cable. All of them from amazon. So you can search the title on amazon and it will come up. The set up that worked for me (and another guy earlier in this post) with NO noticeable FPS drop or lag or problems whatsoever is this:

FIBBR DP to DP Cable, Fiber Optic Displayport 1.4 Cable Male to Male Support 32Gbps High Speed 8k@60HZ 4K@140HZ Compatible with HDTV Projector, PC Host, Graphics Card

It's unfortunately very expensive. But the cheaper alternatives listed below did NOT work and I returned them. I mean they didn't work at all. There was one that kiiiinda cut in and out, but even at its best it had a lot of pixels missing.

MAN. I REALLY didn't wanna fork over the cash for the FIBBR cable... but it's one of those cases where you get what you pay for. Also a note to those experimenting, try switching around the cables in all sorts of ways before calling it a failure. I've had varying success that way. Of course, none that were playable in the slightest.

Good luck and I hope my misfortune and lost time gives you some luck and eases your stress!

Anyone find a more affordable DP extender solution? Even 3ft would be helpful. Over $100, is not practical considering wireless for the Vive is like $150. (yes, I know that doesn't work on the Index)

FYI: I'm also using a MinDP to Full DP adapter. So ideally something with Mini DP.

That's a bold move my friend, TWO unsupported accessories?

On another note: do any former Vive owners know if Index works with that Vive Link Distribution box? I have a feeling no, but I also feel like that is what you laptop and big-room users need if it does.
The Index uses Display Port, the Vive HDMI. So at most it would do the USB. But that seems to work on an extension easily, so not really needed.

So "bold move"? Why? You mean I'm asking too much? I tried an extension with MiniDP on one end and full DP on the other. But it didn't work well at all. I've had m=better luck with a full DP extension, but even that was intermittent signal, so not a win.

About $150 USD from Amazon Germany. About $100 USD if from the links in the video. (not sure why you'd choose to pay more, unless you live in Germany)

Anyone find it for less in the USA some other way?

Haha of course i Live in Germany. I would be very very stupid to pay more and wait so much longer

Payed about 125 € (137,14 $) because i bought a little bit more expensive DP Female to Female adapter , I did not want to put an 85 € cable in an 1 € connector

But of course you can pay less than that :)

Thanks for explaining. Shouldn't you be in bed by now?

Anyways, have you been able to identify if there's any latency or delays due to the extensions? The Fiber Optic DP cable has to encode then decode back to a wire signal, for example.

PS: Looks like you just bought BeatSaber too! I did about 6 hours ago. Let me know if you get custom songs to work and if you have any advice for a noob.

You´re welcome! And no i shouldn´t :D

I just played about two hours beatsaber since I installed the extensions but till now i would say that there are no latency or delays, and my boyfriend confirms it and he has an keen eye for things like that.

I tried this $24 one. It did NOT work well enough to keep. At 90HZ, there was snow in the picture.

Has anyone else had success with this, or something else? I'm in the process of receiving a high end custom made 3ft one for testing. If it works, they will start selling it and I will post it. Their 6ft test one was about a 98% success. Very light snow, and playable, but noticeable in the black areas of games.

Hello everyone, I'm going to buy a Valve Index and I need to be able to add 20 meters of cables.

By reading all your posts and searching a bit on Amazon here is what I'm going to buy to try and achieve this :

20m DP1.4 cable :

https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B00V7NOYDI/ref=crt_ewc_title_dp_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1NKH53T1DU028

20m active USB 3.0 extension :

https://www.amazon.fr/Bluepower-3-0-m%C3%A2le-Chipset-R%C3%A9p%C3%A9teur-Extension/dp/B01BLPSWTI/ref=sr_1_2?__mk_fr_FR=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&keywords=usb%2B3%2Bactif%2B20m&qid=1571255021&sr=8-2&th=1

DP Gender Changer :

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004Z9YBFC/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&psc=1

Does any of you see any obvious wrong choice in these three products ?
If not I'm going to buy them and report my tests results here.

Wrong choice? Maybe getting only 1 gaming PC instead of 2? :)

All your items match what I had in my personal notes as to what I've seen others use, so I think you are probably safe. (though I personally never went that far, so who knows)

Fiber optic is the way to go on DP. I've tested about 8 of them, and have found 2M passive that works almost perfectly. I'm trying a 3ft (in hopes of finding something to help me and others, get some extension without snow) but that's barely much help.

With all my Amazon cable testing, I've consistently gotten free returns, by just saying the cord says it should work but for me on the (highly quality sensitive) Valve Index it does not work. So hopefully you'll be safe either way.

Do let us know what you find works or doesn't! Also, if you do a non-floor routing, please reply to this and explain:

I don't have enough money for a second gaming PC ^^ and most of all I don't want to have a PC in my living room (which is the place where I'm going to play VR)

I forgot to mention in my previous post that I also bought a gender changer for the displayport cables : https://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00197510.html

It's supposedly a DP 1.2 gender changer so it shouldn't bottleneck the signal (hopefully)

And yes I am going to do a non-floor routine, I think when I'm finished I'll make a quick video of my setup and paste its link here :)

All-in-one Pc is the way to go for sure. My second PC comment was just a (weak) joke. Definitely let us know in here, how the extensions work out. FYI: I've found that when a setup has very light snow (random lost pixels due to extensions), it seems to have bad days and good days on the same hardware setup, randomly. No idea why.

And when you got your "near-wireless" setup done (cable in the sky vs floor) pics are great, a video even better! Post that in the right thred so the people interested in it see it! Here's that thread.
