My Index works fine so far, however I have to unintstall the audio device every single time I start SteamVR, otherwise the sound device does not work and I don't get any sound. Wondering if it's related...
The issue has returned and they won't let me see my old support ticket to know what to do.
I'm going insane because they could have helped me very quickly and easily.
And also could be telling others how to fix this same problem...
I messed around with something in the .inf entry that was pointing to the wrong driver or location at one point. Although I can't remember specifically.
Definitely do NOT install the driver from windows update. That will cause a lot of problems.
You might need to check event logs and stuff like that to find the specific error that can tell you what exactly is going wrong.
Be very careful messing around with stuff like the driver store and driver.inf files. Always make backups and back up your windows install and make system restore points.
1. Restart your computer and plug your Index into a USB 2.0 port.
2. Power cycle your Index; Remove the AC connection for 30 seconds.
3. Reset your SteamVR USB devices from Menu (3 lines) > Developer > Developer Settings > In the 'Reset' subsection, click 'Remove all SteamVR USB Devices'.
4. Disable Windows Enhanced Power Management for SteamVR devices from the same menu by clicking on "Disable Power Management."
5. Shut down SteamVR.
6. Restart your computer
7. Reconnect your VR equipment to USB 3.0+ ports, start SteamVR and retest the issue.
