Spare face gasket
I remember reading the store page saying that with the full kit you got a spare face gasket to swap when the first one got grimy.
I didn't receive a spare face gasket with my kit and I see they are nearly £40 to buy.
Did they remove the gasket from the offer? If they did, I think that was really tight of them after offering it.

I don't remember reading that, not home now, but can check way back machine later. It might have been a note that it's easily detachable for the reasons you mention, and that spares are available.

No it's no longer part of the offer, I checked, but it was. I was wondering why they stopped giving as part of the bundle.

So the kit page does not contain this, which is where I checked first, and I think what I was checking out from the beginning.

But, I did find what you mentioned on the product page for the headset alone, that page launched April 1st 2019[web.archive.org] saying this:
2 Face Gaskets (narrow and wide)

They changed it to a single gasket on at least at April 30th 2019[web.archive.org], the other crawl dates seem broken so not sure if it happened even earlier:
Face Gasket

As pre-orders opened up May 1st, the day after they changed it to a single gasket, I'm not sure anything can be done to get a second gasket.

I imagine it's probably a mistake on their end to not change it earlier, this as the kit page seems to ever only mention the one gasket, all the way from when it was originally published, thus why I had never read anything else.

As a funny side-note, Oculus did the exact same thing with the original Rift (CV1), they promised one standard facial interface and one specific for glasses wearers. The glasses interface never materialized, even as an add-on. I think the conclusion after the fact was that they changed the contents of the box close to pre-orders, and nobody really noticed, just like what happened here.
It's a bit of a ♥♥♥♥ move reducing it to only one gasket, like that would make the economical difference. It's not like you can easily clean it either. It soaks up sweat like a fricking sponge, so you can't really pass it around. Some water-proof coating would have been nice. And 2 plastic frames with a magnet and some synthetic fabric for almost the price of a steam controller isn't exactly a fair deal.

They want you to pay $40 to get 2 new ones. When 3rd part companies start selling single ones for $15, then we'll all buy that.

On reflection I have no problem buying the new gaskets from steam, I mean this stuff is good quality. It was only that I expected a spare in with the very expensive full kit. :)

I did buy the 2-piece kit, this as I wanted to do some modding[imgur.com] without risking being without one at all 😅

You just cut the nose section out, because the original didn't fit your specific facial structure well, right?

Or did I overlook something that you did which would be beneficial to people who find the original comfortable as-is?

Nah it put pressure on my nose, so I did it to fix comfort for me, not as a general improvement 😋
