Valve Index Headset

Valve Index Headset

Scratched lens on new Index headset, is there anything I can do?
Got my index today and tried it for an hour. Afterwards I noticed my glasses were smudged, and cleaned them. Just that one smudge did not go away, it's a scratch. Quickly I've also noticed that there is a companion scratch on my Index's lens. It happened because I had them touching, but didn't notice it.

The glasses are one thing, but the Index is brand new, and it's a real bummer. It's a somewhat tiny scratch, and I doubt it'll affects the experience, but is there anything I can do about it? It's not a manufacturing fault, and with that not covered with warranty. Are there replacement lenses you could buy? Are there protective films/third party prescription lenses I could use to prevent future problems?

Do you really need to wear the glasses doing the VR? Ive got a Vive and someone tried using mine wearing glasses and everything was blurry. Once they took off the glasses it was much better. Sometimes getting the IPD set right is a factor.

Sorry to hear about the scratch.

Same with mine. Wasnt sure if they came scuffed up or not. I messaged support yesterday to see what they could do. I read somewhere else that someone had the same issue and they replaced the lenses for them. Also try and get some VRoptician lens adapters. $109.00 shipped. They can put your perscription in the lens and it serves as protection for the Index lenses.

Yeah I need to wear my glasses. Used to be able to not wear them with my Vive for the first 18 months but I'm heading into middle age and all that stuff and my eyes are not having it.

All that said, I've had no issues with my glasses scratching any lenses on any headset, not even my Index.

Today I adjusted the eye PD and when done playing I noticed a large smudge on the right lens of my glasses and a small one on the left lens. They are not smudges, but permanent scratches. I have had my Valve Index for less than two weeks and now have a PERMANENT & NOTICEABLE in game "smudge" on my right side. Replacing my glasses is going to cost me about $100, but the Valve Index is going to cost a whole lot more (I will be contacting tech support to find out how much). I am extremely dismayed that Steam didn't integrate a replaceable screen protector into the headset.

And going without glasses isn't an option. For example, in Beat Saber I cannot read the text without my glasses.

If your only near sighted, like me, you don't need to wear your glasses with any headset.

People every contact with lenses even smallest will scrach them. Stop using glasses or consequent unavoidable.
The only thing you can do is polish your lenses so scratch becomes transparent.

I am near sighted, but I can't use VR headsets without glasses. One of the purposes of the lenses are to make them appear at a greater distance, as you can't focus on something 5cm way form your eyes.
I got prescription lenses for the headset now, so it's ok for the most part. With the screendoor effect, and my eyes never being perfectly in the sweet spot I never notice the scratch now.

Well first of, you aren't covered by warranty as you basically ruined them yourself... your option is to contact valve and HOPE they give you a new pair, or find some to buy!

As of yet, valve don't sell back ups... you can how ever!, send the lenses of with a perscription form to a firm that'll make perscription lenses, and they maybe able to do them!
