Is This a Direct Sequel to Blind Forest?
Do the events in this game come immediately after Blind Forest? I would really like to play this, but I've not beaten Blind Forest yet.

Yes. This game happens a few years after the first... you don't necessarily need to play the first one to understand what's going on... however you won't know who some of the characters in the beginning are... such as Naru and Gumo... The significance of Kuro's Feather... the Sunstone Cameo at the beginning. Some details get lost in the mud too... such as how guardian spirits are born. That was shown in the first game via demonstration (Ori's birth) and it is shown again at the end of the WotW but not explained or shown explicitly.

I've played a bit of Blind Forest, currently in Mount Horu, so I'd recognize characters, but that's about it.

Mount Horu is the final dungeon... so yea you've got like 20 minutes left in Blind Forest. May as well finish it. There's enough context now for you to understand pretty much everything in WotW already then. You know who Naru and Gumo are... Ku is the only surviving child of Kuro and becomes Ori's adopted sister. Due to the Light (which killed her siblings) one of Ku's wings are deformed and she can't fly properly on her own. Ori gives her mother's final gift (Kuro's Feather) to Ku to allow her to finally take flight and that kicks off the events of the game.
