Is there a major difficulty spike like in the first game?
I had trouble with the Mount Horu part in the first game so i just gave up and watched the rest of it on Youtube because it was too overwhelming for me. Does the sequel have this kind of spike too?

Yes, they tried to replicate the same experience with final part of Ori WotW too. It is clearly similar to mount Horu to me. But Ori Wotw is easier game in general.

Mount Horu in Ori BF was overwhelming to me too initially. What can I possibly achieve here aside from dying? But... I quickly became used to these new circumstances and adapted.

I feel you was in need to try it and that you gave up too early. Solving these puzzle rooms in Mount Horu was a pleasure.
Personally I haven't noticed it. I am a rather beginner in platformers (started with Ori and the Blind Forest: DE) and a rather casual player who loves Diablo III for example.

I think some parts of some games are just totally natural to be a bit harder than other parts, because it is just not possible to perfectly balance a game in every point for every person. Everything is passable however, if you play the same part enough of times (and come back at different times), no matter your skill level.
Because at every iteration you are getting better than at the previous one.

Also giving up at some point is a good idea, if you remember to go back there later and try again after some resting time. Because our brains don't always work good, sometimes our mental capacity is worse than at other times, sometimes better. That can sometimes create a false sense of "I can't make it, it's too hard". It may be too hard for our brain, but only for the specific moment (not always).

So it is a nice idea to go back to a thing that was hard for us at some point at a later time, to see if at this time it will be easier for our brain to go through than before. And it often surprisingly for us becomes much easier than we thought before, because our brain adapts and prepares subconsciously for the challenge during the rest time.

That's why (for me at least) resting time is as important (or even more) than the action time. The most important part is not to be easily discouraged, though, because everything is passable even for casual players like me.

To be honest, Ori and the Will of the Wisps seems to me generally a bit less a complicated game in terms of puzzles, challenges and platforming than the previous one, and for that I often felt that I enjoyed the first game's puzzles and challenges much more. So maybe it will be easier for you. They seemed to focus more on other things in this game.

A true difficulty spike for me was in Hollow Knight. Its (totally optional!) Content Packs and alternative endings were all too hard for me even after many tries and 160 hours of playing. Similar thing was in The Messenger in the free DLC, it was considerably harder than the base game. Compared to that optional HK/Messenger content, both Ori games are a breeze.
