Doesn't encourage solo play?
I've been reading a few comments about how the game's design might hinder solo play: not being able to pause, restarting a level if your sister (bot) gets killed, unable to kill certain enemies without assistance from another player, things like that. I simply wanted to verify this. Is this game kind to solo players or is it strictly a co-op experience? Thanks in advance.

So far there are a few issues but largely that AI is helpful but never carrying. They will fight enemies for you, save you from dying etc but they won't do the heavy lifting in boss fights or wipe out groups of enemies like say followers in Skyrim will.

The game seems geared more towards Solo play being for people who want to take the completionist or ultra slow stealth routes - since the AI will never get bored or rage quit. Playing with randos is also an option but I have mixed bag with that.

I don't mind the stealth approach so long the story's worth it.

It's not designed to hinder solo play, it's just designed to be played co-op. You can totally play it solo, but you'll be able to tell you're not playing it entirely the way it was really meant to be played.

It does not encourage fun; let alone solo play. No pause, no ability to play without AI and no inter-mission checkpoints or self saving system.

There are some enemies that have rear weak spots but none that absolutely require player co-ordination to defeat. You have a shared pool of three lives so the AI dying won't instantly cause a wipe/restart.

As others have said co-op will be a better experience but its not unplayable solo.
Yeah the big thing with solo play is that you definitely want to level up more than if you had a human partner. The AI is serviceable but doesn't compare to the skill of even an average player.

Moral of the story is that solo play is not as advantageous as coop play with a friend.
