I remember from my playthrough that there was a tutorial somewhere telling you about enemy "Barriers" and how to counteract them, using weapons that match the symbol to their barrier.
||||| - Light Barrier
[] [] [] - Heavy Barrier
The former can be countered by the Machine Pistol/Machinenpistole, Shotgun/Kugelgewehr, and SMG/Blitzgewehr.
The latter can be countered by the Assault Rifle/Sturmgewehr and Pistol. Though fighting robots you probably want to use heavier ordnance or stronger output weapons like the Laserkraftwerk once you acquire them.
Also, there are ways to score faster kills on enemy heavy armor/"Big" Robots like Panzerhunden and Zitadelles. Panzerhunden have fuel tanks in their torsos you can shoot and destroy lickety split to make them stumble, and I believe busting all three (I believe they have three? It's a while) will kill them regardless of their health meter.
Zitadelles can be best disabled by concentrating fire on their arms. If you blast off both arms, they will also die regardless of health. This can also be replicated with Ubersoldaten as well, gib both of their arms and they'll go down regardless of HP.
Hopefully I managed to figure out the big problems, because I don't think you're having a problem with run of the mill grunts like Neosoldaten, Soldaten and Gestapo Soldaten.
Zerstorers can also be disabled by taking down both arms. Bombenhunden will gib if you shoot the dynamite strapped to them (the dynamite will also explode if you shoot it on their corpse if you didn't gib them).
I'll cautiously approach the game again--thanks guys
The ability to pick up the heavy weapons is now something that you have to unlock in the character tree. This game is more like an RPG so you have to level up your character, your weapons and so on.
Also a heads up since you seam to struggle, do not try the Brother 1 boss unprepared, that one is a really hard one (much harder than the Brother 2 boss).
At first I hated it, but a player got me to play it with him in co-op. I have now finished it in co-op and will finish it solo within the next few days. I have thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish and must say that it is better by far compared to TNO, TNC and TOB
The first three were perhaps an updated version of each other, YB is totally new in concept and quite refreshing from the previous 3. The biggest mistake is that the player attempted to play YB in the same mode as the previous 3. And in doing so failed. YB presented a new style of planning and execution and each area offered different opportunity to play such as a change in how one approaches any given problem. You needed to improvise, change, modify and execute, not the game but in the player thinking/planning stage.
Believe me I hated the game at first until I was shown a different strategy.
I wish we had more players like you, who actually adapt and overcome for real, instead of writing the challenge off immediately.
Major kudos!
Well, thanks for the humor (much appreciated).
On Victory Boulevard, what I did to reach the brother 3 area is run through the level and not kill anything, pulled the electronic door handles and left. If that is what you call "overcoming" I did overcome it...smh. My point is this is not a real great design. I have played shooters many years and have rarely see clumsy coding of this nature. Bullet sponge enemies, cannot adjust skill level downwards fully, far too much resistance (two players versus the whole Nazi army).
Yeah, I'll keep playing for now. I'm sure I will run into another hitch at some point, or maybe at the very end where the game cannot be finished after many hours of effort, isn't that fun.
