Negative.
You update your client, boot up the game like usual and on the character selection screen there's the option to either play base PSO2 or NGS.

They talked about it forever, and I've seen the (greyed out) option to load into base PSO2 when I participated in the closed beta for NGS :)

from what I read online, we will need the 70ish GB of PSO2 PLUS the NG size which is going to be something like 25GB.

We will need 100GB to make NG run.

Most know already, we just want clarification on whether one can be downloaded without the other tacked on or not. Of course, the devs don't check these things, so it's just shouting into the breeze.

you CAN get it separately if you dont own/want pso2

This right here... Is it an update? Is it a new game? How is this being handled? Is this a fresh start for all?

no because you can carry over your char into it save a few things dont cross over but most of it does from what i read.

think of it more like 2.0 remastered/optional.

theres a ton of information surrounding this if you go to youtube and/or go to the official phantasy star online 2 website. everyone starts from scratch except some items carry over as a weaker weapon. indepth info on the website. gameplay, class system, how to access NGS through PSO2, etc is all given.

That is not what I am asking about, and I've seen all that info already. But thanks for re-iterating it.

Hi. As of the moment, they haven't announced anything where to make that choice. There's no news if the classic PSO2 and NGS will share the same launcher, nor if the choice even exists (ex: if classic PSO2 launcher and NGS launcher are separated).

In line with this, I HIGHLY suggest using the PSO2 Tweaker (updated for NGS), a third party program that eases your installation processes and does literally all the work for you. It keeps your client updated as well as the ability to even switch between NGS versions (Win10, Steam, Epic) with their handy client converter option.
