Why not just reboot base PSO2 as "PSO2 Classic"???
Clearly many players want to relive PSO2 as it used to be. Why not just create a separate server for PSO2 as it was before the game ended? As in, start PSO2 at an earlier episode, bring back all the scratches and everything else exactly as it used to be, and give it a slow progression towards the end. It would take many years to exhaust all of the content if they released it at the same pace as it was in the past, and it would provide players with a game that they used to enjoy.

I firmly believe that it would be a huge hit, and that Sega is missing out by not doing this.

Would be neat though if it had some way to share Friend Avatars.

Game devs need to realize people prefer new improvements and additions over reinventing the wheel. Base PSO2 should have been like OSRS, because NGS is definitely RS3 of PSO

PSO2's audience will always be super niche; Sega cemented that fact when they launched the game internationally 8 years late. Outside of the super dedicated players that played on the jp servers all these years, pso2 doesn't have nostalgia to pull from a game like WoW has to make a classic server work.

Why the hell didn't they release pso2 on switch and then wait till ngs to release on steam? It would have next to no competition on switch, huge player base, and the games age would have been forgiven because of the switches low tech specs. It could have a big enough player base so both games could have their own support teams.

If switch can run witcher 3 decently and playable, pretty sure it could handle a game as old as pso2.

Switch version already exists as a Japan-only cloud game.

"Phantasy Star Online 2 The Oracle Chronicles" or something like that?

Their attention is not on PSO2, it's on their upcoming Supergame release in March next year. They had a lot of failures recently, like the cancelled Hyenas and layoffs so they're focusing very hard on March 2026 as a make or break time. PSO2 isn't a priority for them at the moment, they'll keep churning out content but nothing groundbreaking IMO.
whats the new game?

apparently, and i am not making this up, they are working on a crazy taxi live service game atm...

source being bellular news on yt. Video title "these gaming execs have lost their marbles"

Surely the hi jinks and shenanigans will pull players from gta5, the best selling game of all time. If they weren't a JP company i would swear they are trying to lose money to get some kind of government bail out at this point.

What's next, chu chu rocket live service? Monkey ball online with full loot pvp enabled! this is just getting sad. They literally have no idea what they are doing at this point.

I really dislike that they are making Crazy Taxi anything but not what people wanted from it...

Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio are getting live service games.

Their Super Games will also be live service games, with one of them being made by the same studio developing NGS.

I'd say a remaster of jet set radio or crazy taxi sounds interesting, but knowing sega the pc version will be buggy as hell, over priced, and most certainly have poorly implemented, deep and intrusive drm (everyone knows the one) that gets broken a week later but still remains to haunt the paying customer forever.

pso2 classic ? ok, but remove those damn scratch , ain't pay my money once again for 923565324 scratch tickets, make scratch tickets tradable by using excube or whatever obtainable in-game
